Centre for Advanced Research in Management and Applied Ethics Research - Consulting - Training This is a legal notice.

Centre for Advanced Research in Management and Applied Ethics [CARMAE] has been founded on February 4, 2008, as a research unit within the Smart Solutions & Support company. Gradually, with the growing involvement of our colleagues and partners in our activities, CARMAE became a legally separate entity. From January 2012, CARMAE has worked under law 26/2000, with its subsequent modifications, inde

xed in the Register of Associations and Foundations, with different organizational structures and self-funded. The main aim of CARMAE is to contribute significantly to the advancement of the two areas of interest, namely organizational management and ethics in organizations, professions and society. Therefore, the Centre runs theoretical and applied research projects with immediate impact on the organizational, professional and social environment. The Centre also organizes conferences (Bucharest Conference in Applied Ethics; European Media Ethics Congress), edits the "European Journal of Applied Ethics" and "Responsibility. A Journal of Social Responsibility, Ethics, and Sustainability", and offers consulting and training services for public institutions, professional organizations and NGOs. There is something profoundly immoral in the fact that a picture of you is being sold on a stock platform and you have to pay for using it, while the photographer gets royalties and the platform fees. Especially when you are a public figure and pictures of you are in high demand.

One of the best biographies of philosophers was published by David Edmonds this year and it is dedicated to Derek Parfit (1942-2017), considered by many 'the greatest moral philosophers since John Stuart Mill'. "Parfit: A Philosopher and His Mission to Save Morality" is of tremendous value because it helps us understand the personal context of Parfit's philosophical ideas. It should be noted that Parfit was a reclusive person, and lacked the interest in making a name for himself in the academia. He was not a prolific author, but his "Reasons and Persons" is a book that keeps our interest awake even after 39 years.

Should the Russian and Belarusian athletes be allowed to compete in international competitions or remain excluded from world sport? Should they be allowed only as neutral competitors or remain totally excluded until Russia ends the unjust aggression against Ukraine and withdraws from all invaded regions? Some sport organizations have already accepted the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes as neutrals, but many people, and especially Ukrainian sportswomen and sportsmen consider this an offence to them and to the fair play rule. We have multiple examples from recent months where this tension between Russian and Ukrainian tennis players has tarnished the competitions.

We also know that any victory of the Russian and Belarusian players is intensively used by the propaganda to highlight a moral superiority of the Russians, but it is much more than that: the money received by the Russian and Belarusian winning players and teams is indirectly supporting the war. At a time when economic sanctions are regularly imposed on Russian companies and individuals, the money received from sport competitions is relatively important to keep the local economy going.

Thirdly, should the Russian and Belarusian players denounce the aggression in order to be allowed to compete under neutral flag? Or should we consider this as "excessive"? Should we proceed with caution and judge the Russian and Belarusian players on case by case basis, doing some sort of analysis of the public positioning towards the Russian aggression?

Russian shells killed Ukrainian athletes defending their country. Why should Russians be allowed to compete in Olympic Games when their Ukrainian counterparts do not enjoy the same rights given the Russian aggression?

The latest example of a whistleblower comes from Ireland. Mark MacGann, a 52-year-old Irishman, used to be the top UBER lobbyist (or Head of Public Policy, Europe, Middle East & Africa, if you prefer the title of his former official position). He released 18.69 GB of data to The Guardian and International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ). To blow the whistle is, first and foremost, an ethical action (no matter your motifs or intentions). At the same time, it is an act of courage.

Former Uber executive and top lobbyist Mark MacGann leaked a huge trove of the ride-hailing company’s internal records, revealing the aggressive tactics Uber...

Today, our colleague Cristian Ducu participated in an academic conference where he spoke about Political Risk. His presentation was focused on the risks associated with doing business in Russia in the context of its aggression against Ukraine. He used the example with Leroy Merlin refusal to withdraw from Russia in order to offer a glimpse into this type of risk. But his main argument was actually about the role of the Ethics & Compliance Officers in mitigating Political Risk and ensure that exit plans are aligned with international and national regime of sanctions and embargoes, with the values claimed by social activists and so on.

We have been following the horrible and illegal actions of Russia against Ukraine and we urge the Russian people to ask their leaders to stop this war. This is a war that satisfies the super-sized ego of Mr. Putin. We also urge the citizens of EU states to ask their governments to take strong measures against Russia interests and force the Russian leaders to put a stop to the war crimes in Ukraine.
