Human Remains Detection K9 Training
Brgy. Talomo Central, Davao City
15-17 April, 2026

Huge thanks to Disaster Search Dog Volunteers of Davao Incorporated for giving us the honor and trust to share what we know about training dogs for Human Remains Detection.

What made this experience even more meaningful is that our groups share the same heart and vision: to serve, to respond, and to help our community in times when it matters most. Because of that shared purpose, we were brought together for a truly fruitful and productive crash course filled with learning, teamwork, and genuine dedication.

We’re proud of the passion and openness shown by everyone who participated. Here’s to stronger partnerships, better preparedness, and more lives and families helped through the work we do.

“The truth is we teach a dog very little...
The important things... the dog can do through his natural ability. We only communicate to him when to do these things.”

Week 4 and our future heroes are leveling up!

They’re now learning how to guide their K-9 partners with directional control — a skill that’s super important in search and rescue because it helps dogs reach exactly where they’re needed, even in tough terrain.

In disasters as massive as expected when “the Big One” strikes, a bark alert is more than sound—it’s hope.

Here, we’re strengthening K-9 in-training Kala’s bark alert. At just four months into training with Class 19, Kala is already navigating rubble and locating missing persons in simulated environments. She still has a long road ahead before full deployment. But even now, her growing skills could make a difference should the unexpected happen.
