Ang HIV ay isang virus na nakaaapekto sa immune system, habang ang AIDS ay ang pinaka-advanced na yugto ng HIV infection kapag hindi ito nagagamot.

Ngunit mahalagang tandaan na sa maagang pagpapatest at tamang gamutan, ang isang Person Living With HIV (PLHIV) ay maaaring mamuhay nang mahaba, malusog, at produktibo.
