SPACE LEADER! 🚀🇵🇭

“This paper highlights how space becomes less ‘out of reach’ when we bring it to communities, when we talk about it, and when we see how it shapes our everyday lives.”

DOST scholar and Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) graduate Dave Loui A. Gumarang has been named one of only 40 International Astronautical Federation Emerging Space Leaders worldwide for 2026.

A DOST JLSS Merit Scholar and BS Mechanical Engineering graduate, Gumarang was selected from more than 300 students and young professionals worldwide after a competitive review process.

The recognition grants him fully funded participation in the International Astronautical Congress in Antalya, Türkiye, from October 5 to 9, 2026, covering airfare, accommodation, per diem, registration, and related activities.

Gumarang will also present his paper on democratizing space education through local applications and youth-led grassroots outreach in the Philippines.

Beyond the recognition, he founded the ISAT U Space Society and the Iloilo Space Organization, helping bring space science closer to Filipino communities.

From Iloilo to the global space community, his journey shows how Filipino scholars can help make space science more accessible.

Padayon, Future Filipino Space Leaders! 🚀🇵🇭
