In celebration of the ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐๐งโ๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ก, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines โ Northern Samar Chapter conducted a Legal Aid and Legal Education Activity in the island municipality of Biri, Northern Samar, home of the countryโs renowned National Geological Monument. The activity was conducted in collaboration with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) of the Local Government Unit of Biri.
The program focused on empowering women and families through discussions on important laws protecting their rights, including the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act (RA 11861), the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act (RA 9262), and the Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313). Participants, particularly solo parents and women, were provided with practical legal knowledge to better understand their rights and available legal remedies.
Volunteer lawyers of IBP Northern Samar also rendered free legal consultation and notarial services to community members who sought legal assistance.
This initiative reflects IBP Northern Samarโs continuing commitment to promoting access to justice and legal empowerment even in geographically isolated communities. The activity also contributes to the advancement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).
Through legal education and outreach, IBP Northern Samar remains dedicated to strengthening communities by ensuring that the protection of the law reaches every sector of society.
