We extend our sincere condolences to the Living family and all who knew Derek (I.D.D.) Living, a much-valued member of our Scots College community.

Derek attended Scots College from 1945-1957, beginning as a five-year-old and going on to represent the College in rugby, cricket, cross country, choir and theatre. Derek later served as President of the Old Boys' Association and helped organise the Founders' Service Reunion Weekend.

Derek was part of a family with deep roots at Scots. His father, Jack Living (1916-1924), was a dedicated leader, supporter and Chair of the Board of Governors, while Derek's sons, David and Richard, continued the family connection at the College.

Across three generations, the Living family has left an enduring legacy of service, leadership and community at Scots College.

Our thoughts are with Derek's family and friends as we remember and celebrate his life and contribution to Scots.

A huge congratulations to Collegian Lewis Clareburt (2008-2017) on winning his second gold medal in swimming at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

These achievements are a remarkable testament to Lewis' talent, dedication and commitment to excellence. We are immensely proud to see Lewis continuing to make his mark on the international stage and inspiring our College Community through his success.

Friday evening's Scots College Rugby Club Gala dinner provided an opportunity to celebrate the remarkable legacy of Collegians Jackson and Connor Garden-Bachop, with both brothers being awarded Life Membership of the Scots College Rugby Club.

The Garden-Bachop brothers have left an enduring mark on Scots rugby through their talent, commitment, leadership and the way they represented the College both on and off the field.

Jackson, who attended Scots College from 2008–2012, played a key role in the College’s growing rugby success. A standout member of the 1st XV from Year 10, he created many memorable moments in a Scots jersey, including a dramatic last-minute drop goal to defeat Lindisfarne at Rugby Quad. Since leaving the College, Jackson has built a distinguished professional career with Wellington, the Rebels, Hurricanes, Kintetsu Liners, CA Brive and Moana Pasifika, while also earning representative honours with the New Zealand U20s and Māori All Blacks.

Connor, a Scots student from 2012–2016, was a valued member of the outstanding 1st XV side that claimed the National Schools Championship in 2014, competed at the World Schools Festival in 2015 and reached another national final that same year. A gifted fullback and wing, Connor went on to represent Canterbury, Wellington, the Highlanders and the Māori All Blacks. Following his passing in 2024, the overwhelming outpouring of love and support from across the rugby community reflected the profound impact he had on so many people.

Friday evening was an opportunity to celebrate not only two exceptional rugby careers, but also the legacy of two brothers who embodied the values of Scots College Rugby.

We were delighted to have Jackson with us to accept his Life Membership and to receive Connor’s certificate on behalf of his family, ensuring both brothers were recognised for their outstanding contribution to the Club.

Congratulations, Jackson and Connor - your place in the history of Scots College Rugby is forever secured.

Collegian John Mowbray (1961-1966) shared with us his experiences of Scots in the 1960s. It was a time of bursary exams, unforgettable classmates, and a school very different than the one we know today.

From starting a tiny stamp-trading hobby at school to building Mowbray Collectables into a global business, travelling the world, serving on international boards, flying on the Concorde, breaking a world record for a NZ stamp, and contributing decades to New Zealand rugby - his story is nothing short of extraordinary.
