Island Bay Community Centre Island Bay Community Centre is set in a charming wee nook behind the shops in Island Bay. Come down the drive beside the pharmacy and see what we have to offer!

The spacious, well equipped facilities of Island Bay Community Centre are available for hire 7 days a week. Tucked away behind the Island Bay shops, the centre provides a sunny, comfortable spot for parties, meetings and gatherings. Much used for classes and workshops, the lounge space has carpet, tables and chairs, couches and a well appointed kitchen while the larger Hall is great for exercise,

Due to Staffing Shortages the Island Bay Community Centre
will be opening late on Mondays at 10.30am and on Wednesdays at 12oon, until further notice.
All other days are usual opening hours.

A new course on the practice of pranayyama at Island Bay Community Centre.

Breathe Here Now: Introductory 4-week pranayama course, every Wednesday 6pm to 7pm starting 10 June.

Translated from Sanskrit, prana means “breath” or “vital life force” and yama means “control”.

In this journey, we will practise breathing and meditation techniques.
Week 1: Come to know the breath
Week 2: Slow down, relax, and unwind
Week 3: Energy, focus, and vitality
Week 4: Experience Śūnya, a taste of emptiness

After each practice, we will have a kōrero to share the science behind the practice and stories about our own experiences. It is recommended that you attend all four sessions, but you are also welcome to drop in for the sessions you are able to attend.

Feel free to bring some kai to share (optional), tea, snacks, or anything else you need to feel cosy and snug.

To join this course, please get a ticket online and PAY WHAT YOU LIKE. We wish to offer this practice in the spirit of our shared prana, breathing together as a community. Please come if you feel these practices may support you, whether or not you can contribute financially.

We are still hearing heart-breaking stories from the community from the many people still struggling in the aftermath of the flood.
I have just had a family come into the Island Bay Community Centre asking for help with bedding. There are 5 people in the family 2 adults and 3 children. They need pillows, duvets, blankets and sheets. If you are able to help with any of these items please get in touch Ph: 04 383 7464 or email: [email protected] and we will arrange pick up. Do call/message me rather than coming in.

We have had a large amount of goods donated to the Island Bay Community Centre and are keen to help families and people in need.
You are welcome to pop in to 137 The Parade Island Bay and have a look we are open Monday to Friday 10am - 4pm or contact us email: [email protected] or ph: 04 383 7464. We are happy to make up a care package if you are unable to physically come in. 💜
