To celebrate Children's Day this year, we asked the kids of Wellington what our wonderful city means to them, and to submit art work that reflects this for an art exhibition! We received some great work over the last couple weeks and we now have them proudly displayed at the front of our centre! They'll be up all week so come check it out!

Today is Children's Day! To celebrate our tamariki this year we're putting on an art exhibition for local kids to showcase their creativity, starting tomorrow and running until Friday. There's still spaces available so if your tamariki want to submit their artwork, just bring it into the centre tomorrow and we'll make sure it gets displayed. The theme is: what does Wellington mean to you. Come check it out!

We had a lovely afternoon chatting with students from The University of Washington who were here to learn about The Pōneke Promise and what that means to Wellington. We took them over to meet a Pastor Joe who spoke about his role at the The Salvation Army New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa Territory and what he does in the Community!

✨ Celebrate Children’s Day 2025 with us ✨

We’re excited to host an exclusive art exhibition showcasing the incredible talent of our Pōneke tamariki! This year’s theme is: What does Wellington mean to you?

If you’re 13 or under, we want to see your creativity shine! Whether it's with paint, pencils, markers, beads, or clay- the possibilities are endless!

All submissions will be featured at our exhibition, running from March 3rd to 7th at Te Pokapū Hapori- 105 Manners Street. Don’t miss out on being part of this vibrant celebration!

You can submit your artwork in person during our opening hours or post it to us- just make sure it's in our hands by Friday 28th February 🎨

A small update from our team 🌟

We'll be back open again on Monday 27th- we can't wait to see you guys! In the meantime we thought we'd put together some resources that can help while we're away.

🥪Free store: This amazing crew is back in action distributing food that would otherwise be lost to the landfill- you can head to their container next to St Peters Church at 211 Willis Street for free kai every weekday evening from 5pm

🍝Everybody Eats: Located down the road at 60 Dixon Street, enjoy a fresh hot meal for as much as you can afford. Enjoy the free meal or pay it forward to help someone else. They're back in action on the 13th of Jan for their dinner service from 6pm

🥑EKTA: Our friends at EKTA have been operating through the entire holiday period- and will continue to do so. Make sure to catch their Guru Nanak free kitchen on Sundays from outside the Opera house.

💕DCM: The helpful support workers from DCM can help with almost anything and are located a few doors down at 2 Lukes Lane. You can visit them from 9am - 12pm on weekdays

🌟Te Tai Ohinga: If you're aged 13 - 24 you can pop into our youth hub at 203 Willis Street on Monay through to Saturday for vibes, kai and heaps of cool FREE activities

Earlier this week we joined many other Wellington organisations to tour the new The Wellington City Mission Whakamaru- a transformative community facility for everyone in Wellington.

Whakamaru is home to long-term transitional housing, a social supermarket, Wellington City Mission’s network of support services and Craig and Gail’s Café – a vibrant community hub where there is no ‘us and them’. This incredible space is operational 24/7 with staff on site at all times.

We look forward to supporting this truely inspiring mahi and continuing to join forces with all the amazing community organisations in Wellington central.

We encourage you to grab a coffee this weekend with your friends and whānau at Whakamaru to help support this much needed mahi 💕
