Join us for *Water, Women & Peace*, an exhibition exploring connections between water, creativity, ecology, and the vision, care, and leadership of women.

Bringing together artists and community voices through painting, installation, photography, poetry, meditation, costumes, raranga, carving, and participatory practices, the exhibition reflects on water as a source of life, memory, healing, connection, and peace.

Friday 5 June | 1:00pm

Meet at the gallery as we walk together to the sea, collect seawater, and bring it back to the gallery as part of an ongoing collective artwork and reflection on our relationship with water.

We’ve had the real privilege to host a couple of youth-led activities in our whare over the last week. Our friends celebrated the volunteers who help shape experiences of refugee background youth across the mutu. We also hosted four wonderful young and emerging artists who are using the arts to make environmental science really accessible and clever. The exhibition continues to be on this Thursday and Friday 10-3 and Saturday 11-2.

We also want to acknowledge and celebrate the many young people who’ve shared their stories, experiences, passions and creativity in our space over the past year. You know who you are! Thank you for all you do!

Food insecurity is something many communities are already feeling, especially as climate impacts deepen. But alongside that, food is also where so much knowledge lives — across our cultures, our families, our histories. Food resilience lives in that knowledge, in how we adapt, share and care for one another. So this week was really about bringing that into the room and learning from each other. We had a wonderful evening of interactive theatre on the food system, and beautiful, nutritious and accessible kai and kōrero.

Shared table, shared future: theatre, kai and kōrero

Join us for an interactive evening on the food system and shared kai and kōrero this coming Tuesday, 5 May.

This event is part of Climate Festival Pōneke and explores food resilience as shared wisdom across cultures and communities.

You are welcome to bring a meal and share your kōrero about your local or cultural foods that could sustain you, your whānau or community during an emergency. Or bring a poem, a recipe or a friend. However this is not essential and we welcome you to come as you are.

Kai is provided by Ekta NZ. For catering purposes please register for this event. Link in bio.

5 May is also the 2nd anniversary of the opening of Te Whare Manaaki o Toda Peace Gallery - another reason to come together over shared kai.

Today, on International Volunteer Day, we celebrate the incredible community of volunteers who bring Te Whare Manaaki o Toda to life — from our thoughtful Advisory Group, to our dedicated Management Team, to every one of our wonderful hosts who welcome visitors into the gallery each week with warmth and heart.

The theme for International Volunteer Day 2025 — “Every Contribution Matters” — beautifully reflects who you are.
Every dialogue you hold, every hour you give, every idea you share, and every moment you spend creating a peaceful, welcoming space contributes to a stronger, more connected world. Your efforts, both big and small, ripple far beyond our gallery walls.
