Part of being a certified playgroup with Ministry Of Education is running emergency drills once a term, fire and earthquake. Which we did today.
And notifying our families and whanau of stay in place (lockdown) and tsunami protocols.
In a lock down: we all stay inside, locked in, hidden and silent until the police say we can go.
Tsunami -interesting to me (Sarah) was realizing a weak but long earthquake is also worth evacuating for.
Maori on these coastlines did not have permanent settlements at the beach. There are tales of Taniwha which align with tsunami and evidence of large tsunami in geography.
We wouldn't worry about car seats for those in prams, we wouldn't tidy up, we would get everyone in available cars like sardines and go go go.
