β˜€οΈ Daylight Saving is coming!

Is it just us or has the weather finally decided to come right? πŸ˜‚β˜€οΈ
After what feels like a VERY long winter, the warmer weather is finally starting to show up which must mean summer is getting closer!

And with Daylight Saving starting this Sunday the 27th of September, it’s a good time to tick a few things off the fire-safety list. ⏰πŸ”₯
βœ… Press the button on your smoke alarms to make sure they’re working
βœ… Check they’re installed in the right places β€” every bedroom, hallway and living area
βœ… Check the expiry date on your alarms
βœ… Make sure your household knows two ways out and has a safe meeting place

It only takes a couple of minutes, so while you’re changing the clocks, give your smoke alarms a quick check too. πŸš’β€οΈ
Longer days, warmer weather and summer on the way β€” we’ll take it! β˜€οΈπŸ˜Ž

πŸ—£οΈ Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori πŸ‡³πŸ‡Ώ

This week is Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori - Maori Language week. Below are a few common te reo Māori words and phrases that you might recognise. πŸ‘‡

Have a look through the photos below and see how many you know! πŸ‘€

And did you know there’s a little bit of te reo Māori right on our own fire truck? πŸš’πŸ”₯

β€œAhi” is the Māori word for fire, and you’ll spot it written across the front of our truck!

It’s pretty cool to see te reo Māori incorporated into our everyday life - even on the fire trucks. Pictured below is Tokoroa 877 at the Balloons over South Waikato 2026

Kia kaha te reo Māori! πŸ–€β€οΈ

πŸ† Whitianga Claybird Shoot πŸ†

Our A Team took out the Overall Team Trophy at the annual Whitianga Claybird Shooting Competition! Huge congratulations to the team. First official time get their names on the trophy and they are looking forward to defending it next year!

Our B Team finished 11th equal out of 22 teams with first-time shooters amongst them. An awesome effort from everyone who took part!

A special congratulations to ex-Tokoroa Volunteer Firefighter Brandon Norman, who took out 3rd place overall with an impressive 45/50! πŸŽ―πŸ‘

A massive thank you to Whitianga Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Whitianga Gun Club for the incredible hospitality and for putting on such a well-run event.
And of course, a big thank you to the partners and families who made the trip over and helped make it such a great weekend. We really appreciate you getting behind the team! ❀️

Well done team! πŸ‘πŸ†

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ 9/11 Memorial Climb πŸ‡³πŸ‡Ώ

Today marks 25 years since the events of September 11, 2001. A day that forever changed the world and saw 343 firefighters from the New York City Fire Department make the ultimate sacrifice while trying to save others.

Today, three of our own firefighters took on the 9/11 Memorial Firefighter Stair Climb at the Sky Tower, climbing 55 floors in full firefighting gear to honour those who lost their lives. β€οΈβ€πŸ©ΉπŸš’
The climb is a powerful way to remember the fallen firefighters of 9/11, as well as firefighters from New Zealand who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

A huge well done to our three firefighters for taking on this challenge and representing Tokoroa. We’re incredibly proud of you all.
25 years on we still remember. πŸ•ŠοΈ
