Got clothing or textiles too worn out for the op shop?
We can help with that! ♻️ Textile Rescue recycling drop-off

Sat 25 July, 9am–12pm, PN Community Leisure Centre (adjoining the Repair Café).

Bring your worn-out clothes and textiles, leave them with us for $6 per kilo, and we will make sure they get their best possible next use and keep them out of landfill. If you're really keen you can also work alongside us as we triage and prepare op shop waste for its best next uses. Come see where it all really goes.

Ripped,stained items that can still be reduced, reused, recycled via sonya and her teams important Mahi they do ♻️🙌🏽

Please when donating make sure you are donating items that are clean,non ripped, non stained as to not overload places like ourselves with too much to handle 💯

Our TradeMe shop is off the ground, starting with an item I found at Te Whare Koha while on a recycling run. Not that Textile Rescue would typically accept shoes, we don't. But these were just too special not to give a wider audience the opportunity to find.

Proceeds from TradeMe auctions will be split with the charity of origin so we can all keep doing what we do.

You can also get to these listings from my shop.textilerescue.nz page where you will also shortly be able to buy Little Yellow Bird apparel, recycling services via our reusable courier Rescue Bags and other textile recycling related things.

As much as I enjoyed writing my blog post this week, this read is a much more important piece. We're pouring money and plastic clothing into landfill like proverbial lemmings jumping off a cliff.

$60,000 is a lot. But here's what that number actually means: around $23,000 spent on clothing you'll landfill, sometimes sooner than later — plus the $37,000 you'll never see because it didn't go into investments instead. That's not just a shopping habit. That's your retirement, traded piece by piece for a polyester mess.

Hi everyone, I’ve decided to pause Recycling Club for now. This is the message I should have posted last week, but slipped through my fingers til now, for which I sincerely apologise.

The sessions need more space, structure and setup than I currently have available, so I’m going to wait until Textile Rescue has its own suitable workspace before running them again.

This means today's session was cancelled and also next Monday's. I’ll post an update when I’m ready to restart in a better format.
