What a lovely afternoon.

This weekend we had our first Crop Swap in Kaitaia that we've had for a while.

We were parked up in the town square with seeds and seedlings ready to go for the spring.

Thank you so much to everyone who came, it was really cool to get to talk to some other passionate gardeners.

People came with their excess plants, left them on the table and grabbed whatever they wanted to take home.

Many people were able to grab something without having to bring something as well, which is a beautiful thing for the community!

There was everything from chamomile to zuchinni, from grape cuttings to a tamarillo plant.

Everything left at the end of the day made its way to the Maara Kai, community garden.

There were big smiles, people enjoying the chat, the free plants and hearing about what we do here at Timebank.

We also had kids having fun with the games and bubbles!

This is an event we'd love to hold more regularly, it would be moreso crops over the summer, and seeds more in autumn and spring.

Is this something you would like to take part in?

I have thoroughly been enjoying my six weeks here with Timebank and connecting with our local community and offerings.

I will stay invested as a member going forward, because for me, Timebank just makes sense!

There’s plenty happening with Tiaki Taiao this week!

🌿 Māra kai o te hapori — Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
🌿 Taipa community garden — Wednesday morning and Thursday afternoon
🧵 Anō Anō — open for sewing, making and upcycling five days a week

Two special things to look forward to:

Thursday 1 October: Learn to Sew begins again with Week 1 — getting to know the sewing machine and learning the basics. 12–3 pm at Anō Anō, $30 or 3 Timebank hours.

Friday 2 October: Seed, Seedling & Crop Swap, 11:30 am–1:30 pm at Town Square. Bring your excess and see what you can trade for the growing season. There’ll be activities for tamariki too!

Come along to something that takes your fancy — we’d love to see you.

So what actually is Timebank 🤔

The originally named 'Kaitaia Timebank' started up in 2009.

10 years later, it had become Tai Tokerau Timebank catering to the entire of Northland!

Timebank was made for just that 👇🏼

Banking time ⏱

Not exchanging it for money.

No matter your skill, your time had value.

1 hour for 🪙 credit to be precise.

That koro that can't get up his ladder to prune his trees anymore?

He could get help from Timebankers and pay them 🪙 credits.

That yard clean up that needs a few extra hands?

Timebankers.

Driving to Auckland and have extra seats?

Pop it on the listings and you can earn credits doing someone else a favour!

All those awesome things you like to do to help out your community?

Timebank credits! 🪙🪙🪙

Then, you have the opportunity to use your credits 💸

Maybe it's your turn to finally get some help around the place?

Maybe you'd like to spend them on learning valuable skills at paid workshops 👀
