WhÄnau, thank you for your patience as we worked through the process to confirm the host venue for the 2027 MÄori Touch NZ Tamariki Tournament.
Following a shortlisting process, our MÄori Touch NZ Trustees met this week to consider the remaining options. We are pleased to officially announce that WhangÄrei has been selected as the host location for the 2027 Tamariki Tournament.
The decision to take the event to Te Tai Tokerau reflects the strength of the tono received from E NgÄki Trust, alongside a clear commitment to collaboration from key stakeholders, including WhangÄrei District Council.
MÄori Touch NZ Trustee Patariki Spellman says the decision followed a highly competitive process:
āIām proud of MÄori Touch NZ for the incredible amount of mahi undertaken as part of this process. We had six opportunities in front of us - all pretty choice and definitely capable of hosting Tamariki 2027ā
āItās been a while since a national touch tournament has been held in the North, so it feels right. I had the privilege of calling Takoha to share the news, and itās fair to say the pre-event mahi is already underway - Te Tai Tokerau is excited.ā
The 2027 MTNZ Tamariki Tournament will be held on Saturday 23 ā Sunday 24 January 2027 at Kensington Sports Park in WhangÄrei.
MÄori Touch NZ also acknowledges Waikato-Tainui for their continued support and commitment to hosting future kaupapa at Hopuhopu, with intentions to return in 2028.
Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for Tamariki 2027 will open soon.
