Dunedin TimeBank Sharing skills, connecting community Our volunteers donate their time to people seeking assistance.

Dunedin TimeBank is a sharing community of volunteers who collaborate with each other and with the wider Dunedin/Ōtepoti community to meet needs for talents, skills, resources, and wellbeing. No debt is established: the recipient is simply encouraged to give back to the community if they are able to. Our member website lets our volunteers list what they are offering and what they would like assist

ance with and in this way members can find people to meet their needs and people needing what they are offering. We regularly post the categories of our current ‘offers’ and ‘requests’ publicly on our social media and members of the public can contact us to connect in with our volunteers and receive assistance, optionally joining Dunedin TimeBank themselves. Though we encourage reciprocity and membership participation to build a network of like-minded volunteers, you do not need to be a member to receive assistance – just send us a message and we’ll do our best to find someone with the right skills to meet your needs. Organisations can also be members and through this they can access a pool of community volunteers. People who already volunteer for organisations may join and get assistance from others within the Dunedin TimeBank community.

We’re exploring the creation of an Ōtepoti Local Food Co‑op, a community‑driven way to build reliable, values‑aligned demand for local producers. By starting with a committed group of households, the co‑op would create a steady weekly market for locally grown and made food, giving producers the confidence to grow, invest, and thrive. This kind of dependable demand strengthens our region’s food resilience by keeping value in the community and shortening supply chains. Over time, it creates the conditions for more growers, more diversity, and a stronger local food economy.

If you’re interested in learning more or being part of the pilot, please fill out this short form:

We’re also keen to connect with as many local producers as possible so please pass on any ideas to [email protected]. Producers can be fruit and veggies, nuts, eggs, dairy (milk and cheese), poultry, seafood, meat and baked goods, and confectionery. Our intention is to offer six months of pre‑agreed income with four months’ notice of any changes giving producers real stability. Ideally, the only changes will be growth, as we plan to add more households once we’ve worked through any teething issues during the pilot phase.

📦✨ Got a spare hour and a helpful heart?

One of our members could use a hand unpacking and moving some light furniture at their new place, nothing too heavy. A few extra hands would make everything quicker (and maybe even fun!).

If you’re available to help out, drop a comment below 🙌 Your time could make a big difference!

Celebrate National Volunteer Week with Us! 🌟

National Volunteer Week is just around the corner (14–20 June), and we’d love to shine a light on the amazing people who make our community so special—you!

To celebrate, Dunedin TimeBank wants to feature one member each day throughout the week (five in total). Each feature will be shared on our social media and will include a photo (ideally of the volunteer in action) along with their responses to a few simple questions:

• Why do you volunteer? (He aha koe e tūao ai?)

• What’s your proudest moment? (He aha tō wā whakakake?)

• What does volunteering mean to you? (He aha te tikanga o te mahi tūao ki a koe?)

This is a great opportunity to recognise the incredible contributions happening across our network and to share the stories that inspire us all. He kaupapa whakahirahira tēnei ki te whakanui i ā tātou kaitūao.

If you’d like to be featured, or if you know someone who deserves to be celebrated, we would love to hear from you! Whakapā mai via phone 02904305562 or email [email protected], and let’s start the ball rolling.

Let’s come together to acknowledge and thank the volunteers who make our community stronger every day. Ngā mihi aroha ki a koutou 💚

✨ Big news for Dunedin TimeBank! ✨

A huge thanks to Lottery Otago / Southland Community for their generous multi-year grant. We’re feeling incredibly grateful to receive this tautoko. 💚

This funding means we can think longer-term, strengthen what we offer, and keep showing up as a steady, reliable resource for our hapori (community). It helps us plan with confidence, grow sustainably, and continue connecting people through time, skills, and kindness; mō te whānau, mō te katoa (for families, for everyone).

Kia kaha, kia māia, kia manawanui ~ thank you for helping us keep going. 🌿

Got a few spare hours on Tuesday afternoons? ☕

Age Concern Otago-Waitaki District is looking for friendly volunteers to join the team in Oamaru to help prepare and serve afternoon tea for their Gentle Exercise group — a very casual, social activity where participants come along just as much for the tea and chat as the exercise!

🕒 Tuesdays, 12:45–3:00pm

Be part of something warm, social, and genuinely appreciated each week 🌟
