Pregnancy Help Ōtepoti Dunedin

Pregnancy Help Ōtepoti Dunedin We offer care and support at no cost to whānau in Dunedin (Aotearoa, New Zealand). We provide information, advice, and practical support to families whānau.

You can support the mahi that we do by donating us the items that you see us offering on here (We love to reuse). All of our services are free, all of the time. We try to provide a helping hand when it's needed, but we also like to care for Papatūānuku by helping everyone to reuse baby items. The only part of our services that have a criteria for them are the pēpi-pods and wahakura that we provide

as part of the Te Whatu Ora Southern Sleep Space Programme. Please ask us for more information about this. When we are providing our services, we ask people if we can note down their name, age, and ethnicity details. This information is stored securely, and is used for general statistical information - the number of people that we provide services to, and the percentages of people belonging to each ethnic group and age group. Our opening hours are 9.30-4 Monday, Tuesdays, Thursday, and Fridays; and 12-5 on Wednesdays. We have a lower sensory time at our drop-in centre from 9.30-10.30 on Thursdays. The person that you will usually interact with on our page is Chris (she/her). Please note the following in relation to any items that we give away or pass onto whānau on here: None of our giveaways are associated with Facebook. We never ask people to go to third party sites to register for giveaways and we never ever ask people for debit or credit card details. All giveaways need to be collected from us at our premises in South Dunedin during our opening hours. Health and safety information:
People must not come in to see us to either be provided with our services or to donate items if they or anyone with them are unwell with anything that is potentially contagious to anyone else e.g. coughs, colds, sore throats, or stomach bugs. Ngā mihi.

Did you know that today is the start of National Volunteer Week? We will be doing some other posts during the week, but I thought that I would start it off by saying a huge thank you to the 5 people pictured - Claire, Emma, Kathy, Kerrie, and Tara. You don't usually see them when you come in to see us, but they are our Board Members - the people who do really essential work behind the scenes. Their dedication to their roles certainly makes the job that I do a whole lot easier, and it is a pleasure to work with them as part of the Pregnancy Help team.

Have you come across our page recently, and are wondering if we only do giveaways? Here's the answer to that (apologies if it's a bit of a long read)
We do do a lot of what we do using our page (around 75% in fact).
You'll see us offering lots of things, along with adding in the occassional day like today.
Using our page helps to increase the accessibility of what we do aka helps us to reach more people, so this is a really good thing.
We do a lot of 'offering and allocating' because hopefully this takes into account things like high fuel costs, people needing to get lifts, and people needing to use public transport. It's not easy at all to get around at times, so it seems preferable for a lot of things for people to know that they are coming in to pick up something that has been specifically put aside for them.
The things that we offer are sometimes essential things that we might only have one off (or a few off) or they might be extra things that that we only have one off (or a few off) so doing a giveaway is hopefully a fair way to pass things onto people.
Aside from our giveaways we also do other things of course. Our starter packs and woollens gift packs are all of the time things that people don't have to wait to see a post about to ask for them. We also do things like quiet browsing (a few bins full of items outside our premises) on a fairly regular ongoing basis, and our big free items out in the mall area days a couple of times a year. We have some things out for browsing in the client area of our premises on an ongoing basis - these are things like pregnancy clothing, nursing friendly clothing, children's books, and baby hats. And we also get referrals from people like the wonderful community midwives for things like sleep spaces and woollens for the whānau that they are supporting.
The aim is for this all to work in together, and with anything that we are doing we are trying to juggle the resources that we have (As much as they seem large, they are limited) along with being as fair as possible to people.
