Our team came together for a fun, Pretty in Pink moment — wearing pink with pride, enjoying our delicious treat box and supporting a cause close to so many of us 🎀💗
A heartfelt thank you to the beautiful ladies behind the scenes Glenda & Abby, with the food being lovingly crafted by our in-house team Julie & Dawn - their care, creativity, and energy made it all happen 💕 You truly brought the heart to this effort.
We’re so proud to share we raised over $600 for breast cancer research — a small but meaningful contribution towards something so important 🙌
Grateful, inspired, and stronger together 💖

🍂 Story Time with Trevor… A Troublesome Cough
A monthly reflection from inside rural medicine, written by Dr Trevor Lloyd.
This month’s story begins, as many do, with something seemingly simple — a cough.
Set in a small rural town, Trevor reflects on the realities of practising medicine where resources are limited, relationships run deep, and not everything is as straightforward as it first appears. It’s a thoughtful, quietly humorous piece about judgement, human nature, and the unexpected outcomes that stay with you long after the consultation ends.
And like all good stories… this one comes with a twist.

Care doesn’t stop at the door of Vincent Ward — and it certainly doesn’t stop when the weather turns.
Beyond hospital walls, nurses right across our community are out there every single day, supporting patients and whānau wherever they are. Come snow, rain, hail, or shine, they show up with compassion, skill, and unwavering dedication.
On International Nurses Day, we recognise the 2026 theme: “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.” It’s a theme that reflects the work nurses do every day — here at Dunstan and across our wider community.
Nursing in a rural setting requires broad clinical expertise, sound judgement, and the ability to adapt quickly. Across inpatient care, acute and assessment services, outpatient and specialist areas, and in homes and community settings — the impact of this care is deeply felt.
Much of this work happens quietly and out of sight, but it keeps people safe, supported, and connected where they need it most.
Today, of all days, we stand to thank you. 💙
For your professionalism, your commitment, and the way you support one another in all conditions — you are truly invaluable to our community.
We are incredibly proud of our nursing workforce — both within Dunstan and across our region.
Ngā mihi nui, and thank you for everything you do.

More health services closer to home for Central Otago and Upper Clutha communities ✅
Following the Minister of Health’s announcement in Queenstown, Dunstan Hospital is well positioned to expand the range of care available locally – reducing the need for long-distance travel and improving access for our communities.
Over the past two years, the Dunstan team has already been growing services across Clyde and Wānaka, including minor procedures, endoscopy, radiology, and the Wānaka overnight acute service.
Looking ahead, there’s a strong focus on increasing “walk in, walk out” ambulatory care – such as infusion services and specialist clinics – alongside improved access to diagnostics and technology.
We’re ready to play our part in strengthening healthcare across the region 💙

We’re advocating for better access to health services... this is just the beginning. Dunstan Hospital Radiology has increased capacity and reduced wait times, making it easier for our community to access timely, high‑quality imaging close to home. With expanded staffing, we’re now offering greater appointment availability — including maternity ultrasounds and publicly funded imaging through established health pathways.

✨ A moment that reminds us why legacy matters ✨
Today, Julie Umbers visited to see the completed reception remodel for the very first time. What unfolded was more than a walk-through — it was a deeply moving moment of connection.
Staff shared how life‑changing the new space is for their daily work and for every person who walks through the doors. And through tears, Julie quietly said:
“It’s so impressive… I wish Mum were here to see this. She’d be so happy.”
Moments like this remind us that legacy gifts are not just bricks and mortar — they are love, memory, and lasting impact. We are profoundly grateful to share these moments with the families whose generosity continues to shape compassionate care for our community.
💛 This is The Legacy.
