Tomorrow the 3rd of June is Global Running Day! For those unfamiliar with Global Running Day, the day is about encouraging people of all ages and abilities to get active by running, jogging, run-walking, or simply taking part in a running-related activity. It is less about competition and more about getting active and celebrating the sense of satisfaction, health benefits, and community that running creates.

What better way to mark the occasion than a group run/walk with Run New Brighton.

Run Plan:

Start time: 6pm
Start/finish location: South Paw, New Brighton.
Run/walk length: 40 mins total - 20 minutes out heading along the Avon River/Estuary Trail, and 20 minutes back.

Head torches are recommended as parts of the trail will be relatively dark.

We hope to see many of you there.

Hi team, it's time again for another social spotlight. This post is about another one of our regulars, Amy. She has just come off completing the South Island Ultra which is a massive achievement. Please show her some love with this post. Looking forward to featuring more of our awesome members through our diverse stories!

SOCIAL SPOTLIGHT

WHAT IS YOUR NAME?
Amy Sixtus

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN RUNNING?
On and off around around 20 years

WHAT GOT YOU INTO RUNNING?
I got really into running when my daughter was a baby. A family member had just done a half marathon and I felt inspired by her. It was also so good for me to have some time to myself. I signed up for the Buller half marathon (my first race). That was about 18 years ago.

DO YOU HAVE ANY BIG GOALS THIS YEAR?
In May I did the South Island ultra 54km (my first ultra). My next goal is the Dunedin marathon.

ARE YOU PART OF ANY OTHER SOCIAL FITNESS GROUPS?
I am a personal trainer so I run my own social fitness group.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR WHYS FOR RUNNING
I run for mental and physical health and I love a good challenge. My husband Aaron also runs so we like to plan trips around events these days.
