Mairehau Primary School have just left to go to China for an educational experience. We supported them to create some amazing gifts to take with them. Here is some feedback from their Tumuaki:

Waitangi Whānau Day Spotlight: Tūhono Taonga, Tūhono Tāngata.

We’re excited to have the Pounamu Van joining us for Waitangi Whānau Day. Operated in connection with Tūhono Taonga, Tūhono Tāngata, this mobile pounamu workshop and gallery creates space for whānau to connect with the stories, skills and significance of pounamu.

The van travels across our communities offering hands-on carving workshops, education around the whakapapa of pounamu, and opportunities to engage with this taonga in a meaningful way.

By bringing the workshop to the people, the Pounamu Van makes Māori art and knowledge accessible to all, supporting connection, learning and shared experience. Come through, kōrero, and spend some time with this special kaupapa during our Waitangi Whānau Day celebrations.

Today we worked in partnership with the cycle safe team from the Christchurch City Council to be create a special pounamu for them. An amazing partnership with a team that do some amazing mahi for our tamariki🤩
