💚 GREEN NIGHT AT TS GODLEY 💚

Last week our cadets wrapped up the term with a well earned Fun Night, with green chosen as the dress-up theme for the evening. Safe to say, they understood the assignment! 🟢🪖

All of the activities were planned and run by our Junior Non-Commissioned Officers, giving them a great opportunity to step up, lead and keep everyone on their toes.

The night was packed with team challenges, including balloon relays to see how many balloons could make it from one end of the hall to the other. Throughout the night there was plenty of teamwork and laughter had by all.

The cadets also tackled a darkened room maze, simulating having to safely find their way out of a building in low visibility during an emergency. 🔦

To finish off a successful term, everyone came together for some well deserved kai. 🍕🥤

A massive thank you to our Support Committee for providing the delicious kai and helping us finish the term on a high.

Great leadership, teamwork, plenty of laughs and another fantastic night at TS Godley. ⚓💚

Last weekend some of our cadets headed over to Cass Bay to participate in 'Ex Marks the spot' the aim of this activity was to focus on furthering the Cadets navigational skills both on and off the water.
We made use of the good weather covering navigational core skills such as, identifying landmarks and navigational markers through to identifying the specific locations of the landmarks and markers.
Cadets were challenged to plot a course out of Cass Bay, from here their objective was to communicate clear directions to the staff operating the powerboats in order for them to successfully follow the plotted course.

The cadets then had the opportunity to operate the powerboats under the direct supervision of the MSO qualified officer. The cadets drove the powerboats in Cass Bay, progressing through the different skill levels required to operate a Powerboat safely, the cadets even got to the point where they were able to maneuver the powerboats in windy conditions. All Cadets and staff returned safely at the end of the exercise, reflecting on the skills learnt and the fun they had. A key element Cadets learnt from the day was, how valuable clear communication and directions are.

Last week we celebrated LT James on receiving her NZCF medal. This recognises her continued dedication to NZCF and the wider community over the past 12 years.

LT James commissioned in 2013 to TS Amokura before transferring to TS Godley in 2018.
During this time LT James has held many key roles in the units from Training Officer & Executive Officer to Stores Officer & Admin Officer.

What a cold and chilly start to an NCO training day.
The day consisted of looking into boating rigging and the most efficient ways of completing it, to finding the most effective ways of running boating days, communication and team work.

A fantastic day on the water at Cass Bay for our TS Godley cadets 😃

The morning was spent developing rowing 🚣‍♀️ and powerboat 🚤 handling skills before an early lunch and preparing the Crown boats for sailing ⛵️

The afternoon saw cadets take to Lyttelton Harbour, sailing out to Quail Island and back while rotating through different roles onboard so everyone could gain hands on experience 🧠😁

It was great to see so many cadets stepping outside their comfort zones, with several taking part in these activities for the very first time. Their enthusiasm, teamwork and willingness to give everything a go made for a successful and enjoyable day.

ANZAC Day 2026, saw an early rise for some members of the unit with a guard and staff attending the dawn service at Heathcote and another officer attending the dawn service in the city centre.

Later in the morning 2 cadets and 2 staff attended the parade out in Halswell whilst all other members of the unit attending the service in Lyttelton.
