Christchurch Memorial Returned and Services Association

Christchurch Memorial Returned and Services Association Our new home opened on 27 March 2015 is designed to welcome our Christchurch Community in so that you can share our rich history and heritage.

Christchurch Memorial RSA was the first RSA in NZ and was founded on 14 December 1915 by wounded veterans returning from the battlefields of the ill fated and tragic Gallipoli Campaign of World War One. It was founded with the object of providing a place of sucour, support, comradeship, reflection and remembrance for war veterans and ex-services personnel. It was the seed that gave birth to the Ro

yal New Zealand Returned And Services Association (RNZRSA) that now spans our nation with an RSA club or association in almost every major community across the country with over 110,000 members nationally. The Christchurch Memorial RSA still holds firm to the values for which it was founded and, through its various charitable trusts and other activities, it continues to this day to provide comfort and support to veterans, veterans' widows and ex-services personnel from the RNZ Navy NZ Army, RNZ Air Force, NZ Merchant Services and the NZ Police. The RSA has also opened up its membership to allow for Associate and Youth Members and to be a member it is not necessary to have served in the NZ Defence Forces or the NZ Police. Membership for single members is $40.00, couples $60.00 and youth $5.00 per annum. The RNZRSA motto is "People Helping People". That's the Spirit!

RIP Neill
They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them.
nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
we will remember them.
We will remember them.

Lest we forget

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of 823355 Sgt L. Neill Price QSM, QFSM, JP.

Neill was a longstanding member of the Kaiapoi RSA, serving as vice president in 2012 before being elected as President in 2013. Neill worked tirelessly to increase the membership of the Kaiapoi RSA and to promote the welfare of veterans. He built enduring relationships with Veterans Affairs to ensure veterans in the area received the support they were entitled to.

In 2022 Neill was elected District President for Canterbury, serving on the Presidents' Forum and ensuring the voice of the Canterbury District was heard at the national level. He stood down from this role in 2024.

Neill was awarded the RNZRSA's Merit Badge in June 2024 to acknowledge his outstanding service to the Kaiapoi RSA and the RSA nationally.

He was awarded the Queen's Fire Service Medal in 1986 and the Queen's Service Medal in 2019. A true man of the community Neil served over 29 years with Fire and Emergency New Zealand, was a Justice of the Peace and also served terms on the Kaiapoi Borough and Waimakariri councils.

Neill was a true gentleman. He had a sharp wit, enjoyed a good debate and had a permanent twinkle in his eye. Smart, funny and kind, he was a joy to be around and his passing leaves a huge hole in our RSA family.

His dedication to veterans, his RSA and his community was second to none and he will be greatly missed.

Our thoughts are with Neill's family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
