At a recent meeting at the Hoon Hay Community Centre, there were some questions about the route for the Metro 60 Bus (Hillmorton to Southshore); particularly the use of Monsaraz Boulevard and Manarola Road.
I'm pleased to hear that this is a temporary route, so will change in future. Please read the staff response here:
The current detour arrangement is temporary and will remain in place until Monsaraz Boulevard is further developed as part of the subdivision works. At the last Waipuna meeting, elected members indicated that this development is expected to begin this year. Once completed, Route 60 will no longer need to turn onto Manarola Road.
ECan has undertaken trial runs before implementing the detour, so the route is considered workable. However, given the tight turning movements, some issues may relate to driver experience or behaviour, and these should be raised with ECan for follow‑up.
It is acknowledged that the current turning movements can be tight, and this can place pressure on kerbs, landscaping, and surrounding infrastructure. Our maintenance team will resolve any issues around kerb & channel once the buses have ceased using the temporary route.
