👋 Meet Sandy Wesford

Sandy has been part of the Cambridge Lifeskills whānau for nearly 30 years, dedicating her career to supporting tamariki, rangatahi and whānau in our community.

A Qualified Registered Counsellor and Professional Supervisor (NNZAC), Sandy joined Cambridge Lifeskills in 1997 as a Counsellor. For the past 15 years, she has also served as Manager, Clinical Leader and Board Member, helping guide the organisation while continuing to support the young people and families who access our services.

Alongside her work with Cambridge Lifeskills, Sandy runs her own private practice, Cambridge Family Therapy, which complements her passion for helping people navigate life's challenges and build resilience 💜

Outside of work, Sandy enjoys travelling, spending time at the beach, fishing and hiking. Family is incredibly important to her, with her parents living in Cambridge and her adult sons nearby.

We’re incredibly grateful for the knowledge, leadership and care Sandy continues to bring to Cambridge Lifeskills 💙

🔦 A page we think parents may find helpful 💚

Child Mind Institute has lots of great info for parents, including this recent post from them, which gives you age-appropriate ways to help your child slow down their breathing.

“The more relaxation skills feel routine, the more likely kids will reach for them when they need it. Normalising the skill is half the work.”

Give it a read, so regulation becomes second nature for you, and your child 😍

Got a great fundraising idea?
Or want to run an event?

Yes please!

It takes a village to raise a child 🧡

Here are some ideas your business, school or club could raise money to support the young people of Cambridge:

🧁 Cupcake sale
👕 Multi-colour dress up day
👑 Wacky hair day

Or perhaps you’ve got a big idea? Contact Sandy: [email protected] - she’s all ears!

Have a great weekend everyone 😊

If the kids are showing signs of being dysregulated this week, can you venture outside and co-regulate with them?

We’re spoilt for choice with outdoor spaces in Cambridge!

Here’s one: a scenic trail from the Velodrome to the Gaslight Theatre 💚

Have you walked or biked this section of the Te Awa River Ride?

If your child’s story has had a difficult beginning, please know that it does not define where they’re headed.

With the right support, young people can build the skills, confidence and resilience to shape a very different outcome 💜
