WHG Ltd - Waikato Heifer Growers WHG Ltd are a family owned company specialising in the growing of replacement dairy heifers.

Established in 2004, Brett and Nadia Dixon joined as shareholders in 2015 and subsequently purchased the business outright in 2020. Brett comes from a strong farming and animal health background striving to grow competitive and robust replacement in calf heifers. Both farmers and growers are fully contracted giving both parties clarity and assurance. Stock are monitored and recorded on systems spe

cifically designed for purpose by WHG Ltd and regular reports are supplied to the clients and growers. Despite the disruption of the Mycoplasma Bovis and Covid outbreaks, the business has proven that running robust systems and processes limits risk. Traditionally dairy replacements have been thought of as a cost, an expense to be kept as low as possible to enable feed and resources to be directed to the lactating herd. More and more people, including successful dairy experts and scientists, now agree on the importance of heifer growing for profitability and sustainability of the farming business.

Some good work out there to show benefits to the calf gains with collars on the cows only, so we will see I guess.

These girls are grazing low
lying river/swamp country that has no fences at all keeping them safe. It means we are utilising an area of around 14ha that was laborious to farm effectively.

Some lovely later calving R2s here moving up to one of our Northern hub Growers for a month then will be switched out with 3 unit loads of in calf winter cows for 10 weeks.

Some fantastic feedback this morning from some long standing clients R2s arriving home a bit earlier for Teat sealing. Our grower here really has done an outstanding job of them.
