Urban Miners is a not-for-profit enterprise that recycles e-waste in Waipa

We hold regular e-waste collection days (except for public holidays, Christmas and New Year) as follows:

Cambridge
3rd Sunday of every month 9–11am
Cambridge High School, 25 Swayne Road, Cambridge

Te Awamutu
1st Sunday of every month 9–11am
420 Albert Park Drive, Te Awamutu

Items we accept: Small household appliances, televisions, computers, tablets, laptops, printers, monitors, microwaves, audio equipment, video players, DVD players, cell phones, digital cameras, power tools, batteries including car batteries, wiring. Items we currently do not accept: Whiteware - fridges, freezers, stoves, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, smoke alarms

Please note that this an ethical and environmentally responsible recycling service and small charges do apply as below.

📣 Welcome aboard, Treadlite!

We're thrilled to announce our very first Silver Community Partner: Treadlite Tyre Recycling , a Cambridge business that knows a thing or two about keeping waste out of landfill.

Treadlite turns end-of-life tyres into premium New Zealand-made products like equestrian arena surfaces and rubber granules for playgrounds and sports fields. Every year more than 7.75 million tyres reach the end of the road in NZ, and Treadlite is on a mission to make them useful again. Now they're making sure their e-waste gets the same treatment ♻️

As a Silver partner, Treadlite's contribution helps cover the cost of collecting, sorting, repairing and responsibly recycling e-waste right across Waipā, and keeps our service accessible to the whole community.

And that's not all. Not only has Treadlite committed to three years as a Silver community partner, they had already also kindly contributed towards the cost of our new security system, helping us keep our site, our volunteers and all that valuable e-waste safe. Thank you, team! 🙌

Here’s a friendly reminder for our Te Awamutu friends

Our permanent drop-off at the Te Awamutu Resource Recovery Centre is open 7 days a week!

Run in partnership with Evolve Ventures, it's genuinely a one-stop shop: drop off your TVs, laptops, phones, printers, small appliances, cables and batteries, and while you're there, the on-site repurpose store also takes donations of clothes, toys, and household items. So if you're doing an e-waste clear-out, you may as well do the whole house and garage at once!

Meet another one of our wonderful volunteers.

This is Martin. He’s been volunteering on the tools for the last 18months.

He says he got roped in by the crew at Te Awa Lifecare! Good on them we say!

We are always looking for volunteers to help with sorting, processing, refurbishing, helping with collections and stalls and more.

Don’t forget - old and broken electronic toys are e-waste too!

Those battery-powered toys, remote-control cars, and light-up gadgets gathering dust in the toy box? They count. Anything with a plug, cord, or battery is e-waste, even the kids' stuff, not just phones and laptops.

Drop it off at the Te Awamutu Resource Recovery Centre, 8 Daphne St, open 7 days a week (Mon–Fri 8am–4pm, Sat–Sun 10am–3pm), or bring it along to the Cambridge collection, 3rd Sunday of the month, 9–11am, Cambridge High School.

Every toy diverted is a few more grams of e-waste kept out of landfill and closer to being turned back into something useful.

Spring clean season is here, might be time to sort the e-waste drawer too?

Think e-waste is just old computers? Anything with a plug, cord, or battery that's reached the end of its life counts, and most of it's probably sitting in a drawer, cupboard or garage right now.

That includes:

📺 TVs & monitors
💻 Laptops & tablets
🖨️ Printers & scanners
🔌 Old kitchen & household appliances
🎵 Audio equipment
🔋 Batteries
🔌 Wiring & cabling
📷 Digital cameras & power tools

If it plugs in or runs on batteries, please don't bin it, recycle it responsibly with us.

While you're doing the spring clean, Urban Miners accepts all of the above and more:
