Freemans Bay Playcentre

Freemans Bay Playcentre Early childhood education where "Whānau tupu ngātahi – Families growing together" Playcentre follows the New Zealand early childhood curriculum, Te Whāriki.

Freemans Bay Playcentre is an early childhood education option for children from birth until school age. Recognised and funded by the Ministry of Education, it differs from other early childhood providers as it values and affirms parents as the first and best educators of their children. This creates the strong whanau atmosphere Playcentre is known for, allowing meaningful bonds to form between al

l the parent members and children, while the mixed age range allows children to learn from one another. The Education Review Office visited Freemans Bay Playcentre in 2018 They found that the centre is "well placed" to promote positive learning outcomes for children.

Are you in need of old ply?

Our fence is getting a make-over and the old ply mural will be removed on Thursday. If you have a project you could recycle the old ply for please make use of it!

Would be great to divert it from landfill!

Kia ora whānau! We’re having the best time getting creative during OPEN WEEK at Freemans Bay Playcentre!
Check out our Very Hungry Caterpillar station in the pictures and video. It's a massive hit and just one of the cool play experiences available for tamariki at our Playcentre. Tamariki love squishing and pinching the dough to create colourful caterpillars and food on real leaves. Alongside them, kaiako sit at the table reading the story and asking open-ended questions to gently guide their imaginative play.
The beautiful thing about combining a familiar story with te parãoa pokepoke (playdough) is that it is attractive and engaging for children of all ages!
Te parãoa pokepoke (playdough) is an awesome sensory tool that strengthens little finger muscles and weaves perfectly into the Mana reo (Communication) strand of Te Whāriki.
Pop down and join the fun, whānau!

Kia ora whānau! 🌈 Pure messy play magic at Freemans Bay Playcentre!
🎨✨Our tamariki had the best time getting stuck into this taste-safe cooked finger paint! It was wonderful watching them share the play space while mixing bright colours and experimenting with the squishy, gloopy textures.
Sensory play like this is fantastic for building curious, active brains. Plus, using their hands and brushes to make marks helps hone those important fine motor skills. The best part? They get to freely explore and make a mess here, so you don't have to clean up your lounge! 🙌 Come join the fun!

Kia ora whānau! 🌿 Want to join us for a FREE outdoor adventure?

You and your little ones (aged 0-6) are warmly invited to a special group excursion to Mt. Eden (Maungawhau) on August 18th, right in the middle of our Free Open Week (August 17th–20th)!

At Freemans Bay Playcentre, exploring our community is a huge part of how we learn. We usually run awesome trips every single term—from local parks to farm visits. Outings take tamariki out of the usual play spaces and into the wider world, helping them connect with nature and build confidence. What they learn and feel outside is just so important!

Fingers crossed for sunshine! ☀️ (If the weather doesn't play ball, we’ll run a fun-filled session at the centre instead and save the mountain for a sunny day).

Come see what our village is all about! We have plenty of other free play sessions running all week.

👉 Book your free visit: https://www.playcentre.org.nz/centre/freemans-bay/
(Just mention you’re keen on the Mt. Eden excursion when booking so we can send you the trip details!)

We can't wait to meet you! 💛

Colors, comfort, and community. 🌈 Playcentre is more than just a place to play.
It’s where strangers become family. This is our safe space—a place where we can lean on each other's shoulders, share our parenting journeys, and just have fun playing with our little ones.
