💥TWO BILLION DOLLARS 💥

That's the annual social cost of perinatal mental distress in Aotearoa, highlighted in a powerful article by RNZ's Kate Green.

Behind that huge figure are real parents in our communities who are exhausted, overwhelmed, and struggling without the support they need. Parent Aid aims to fill that gap because when parents get the support they need, families thrive 🏠✨

Shoutout to Kate Green at RNZ and Ashlee McCormick from The Tindall Foundation for shining a light on this. As Ashlee highlighted, community-led support is a vital lifeline for new parents facing these challenges 💛 Read the full article here: https://bit.ly/45bKoAG

💛 A Heartfelt Thank You to the Christine Taylor Foundation 💛

Parent Aid North West deeply appreciates the generosity and support of the Christine Taylor Foundation for Mental Health.
Their funding enables us to continue our vital work providing perinatal and postnatal support to families, including those experiencing postnatal depression and other mental health challenges.

With this support, we can continue walking alongside parents and whānau, offering practical assistance, emotional support, and connection during what can be a very challenging time.
On behalf of the Parent Aid KNorth West team, we extend our sincere thanks for your generosity and commitment to mental health in our communities.

Kia ora whānau 🤍
Together, Parent Aid North West and Helensville Birthing Centre would like to share an update regarding our Wednesday Drop-In Midwifery Clinic.
Due to changes in funding, this service will no longer continue. Our final clinic will be held on Wednesday 13 May.
We know how valued this clinic has been for many whānau, and this has been a thoughtful and considered decision. We are incredibly proud of the collaboration between our teams and the support this service has provided to the Helensville community.
While this chapter is closing, both services remain here for you.
Parent Aid remains here for the community, continuing to offer in-home support for whānau.
You can get in touch via email at [email protected]
or visit www.parentaidnorthwest.org.nz/contact-us/ to complete a referral form.
Helensville Birthing Centre will continue to provide:
– Midwifery clinic / Milk Café | Fridays 10am–1pm (chat, kai, coffee, support and connection)
– Immunisations by appointment ([email protected])
We warmly encourage you to come along — this space continues to be an important part of our community.
We’re also excited to share that HBC is expanding their immunisation service, with plans to support pēpi and tamariki up to 1 year of age — watch this space.
Wāhine Wellness services will also continue, with further updates to come on the HBC socials.
Thank you for your ongoing support, understanding, and for being part of this community. Together, we remain committed to supporting whānau in Helensville.

We know many of you have been looking forward to our 2026 Clothes Swap events, including the children’s swap, and we are grateful for the ongoing support from our community.
After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to postpone this year’s event. Our priority is to ensure the event is delivered to the standard our community expects and deserves, and due to a variety of factors we just can’t do that this year!

💛 How you can support, if you’re able 💛

If you had planned to purchase a ticket ($30) this year, we would be very grateful if you would consider donating that amount to Parent Aid North West.

Your contribution will go directly towards supporting local families with young children who require additional care, and practical in-home support. This support can make a meaningful difference during particularly challenging times.
As demand for our services continues to grow, so too does the cost of delivering this support. Contributions like these help ensure we can continue to be there for families when they need it most.

We are so grateful to the Huapai-Kumeū Lions for their generous donation which has enabled us to add Connetix to our Home Support Worker kits 🟥🟦🟩🟨🟧🟪

These open-ended resources are incredible for engaging tamariki of all ages, encouraging creativity, connection, and imaginative play in so many different ways.

We’re so grateful for your ongoing support of our community and the families we walk alongside.
