Our media release. Great outcome! We've now got all political parties, except one, on record supporting law reform to scrap previous 'good character' sentence reductions for child s*x offenders in the next parliamentary term. Whether they are in Government or in Opposition. Check out what each said.

S*XUAL ASSAULT of daughter: New Zealand.
'GOOD CHARACTER' discount.

Yet another s*xual predator - this time a biological father jailed for s*xually assaulting his own daughter - receives a 'previous good character' sentence discount of 5%. Victims get no discount on what is often lifelong trauma. These good character discounts are UNacceptable and must be scrapped! (On a separate note, this mother is a disgrace!)

Stop Demand is being proactive in this space, having engaged with all NZ political parties in recent weeks. Watch for media release next week.

S*XUAL VIOLENCE law reform: New Zealand

On the cusp of Stop Demand writing to all 123 MPs seeking a ban on judges considering good character when sentencing child s*x offenders - with the written endorsement of 12 other highly-respected organisations that work to prevent s*xual violence and assist victim-survivors - the New Zealand Prime Minister made this announcement today. Fantastic! But ... words are one thing; action and follow-up is what we demand! This should NOT be a politicised issue - "if we get voted back in" - but an important law reform matter that resonates with, and has the support of, all six political parties.

'No s*xual offender is a person of good character. Period,' Christopher Luxon said.

The month of April - S*xual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) - might be ending. But the devastation to lives, forever altered, never ends.

In time of peace -

What a pleasure to be invited to Survivors 4 Survivors Otautahi
To work with and support male survivors of s*xual abuse, one on one and as a peer support group.
Many of our survivors have come from State and faith-based 'care'. The peer support group originated in Christchurch in 1991 by fellow survivor Iain Bennett who started MSSAT (Male Survivors of S*xual Abuse Trust) in 1997.
