A great morning of connection and talanoa at our Alo Vaka Morning Tea today!
Today was an opportunity for our jobseekers to come together in a relaxed space, meet the wider Vaka Tautua team and connect with support for different parts of their employment journey.

A big vinaka vakalevu to Tangata Atumotu Trust for providing health checks, immunisations and sharing the importance of looking after our health and wellbeing.
Also, a massive thanks to Hineamaru and Lani from Ara for sharing the different study and training pathways available and how education can help open doors to future employment.
For us, Alo Vaka is about more than just finding a job. It is about getting to know the person, understanding what matters to them, and connecting them with opportunities and support that can help them move forward.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, shared some kai and took the time to talanoa.

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate the first graduates of our Tupe Wise programme - with 43 participants who have taken an important step towards building greater financial confidence, capability and opportunities for themselves and their families.

What makes this milestone even more special is that our graduates have also earned micro-credentials designed by Vaka Tautua:

Tupe Wise: Building the Financial Capability of Families – Level 4
Tupe Wise: Supporting Families to Achieve Financial Independence and Intergenerational Prosperity – Level 5

This means their learning goes beyond the classroom. Their achievement is formally recognised and recorded on their NZQA New Zealand Record of Achievement giving them a nationally recognised record of the knowledge and skills they have gained.

For our graduates, this is more than a certificate. It’s recognition of their hard work, their growth, and their commitment to creating stronger financial futures for themselves, their families, and future generations.

If you’re a person with a disability (or carer) and have questions about enrolling or voting in the 2026 General Election, then sign up for the online zoom hui on the 15th or the 20th of October delivered by the Electoral Commission.

The sessions will cover:

- What’s different this election
- How to enrol
- How to vote
- What support is available for disabled people

A New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) interpreter will be available at every session.

Vaka Tautua was grateful for the opportunity to pilot a youth program in the Wairarapa Region, working in collaboration with church communities.

As part of the programme, we were privileged to deliver five Thrive with 5 sessions with the Samoan Methodist Youth Group. The sessions provided a valuable opportunity to connect, engage, and learn alongside our young people.

We are thankful for the meaningful connections, shared experiences, and partnerships established throughout the programme, and for the opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing of young people across the Wairarapa.

A big thank you to Screen South and Tangata Atumotu Trust for supporting this awesome health event at Hosana Church tonight !

It was great to see our people putting themselves first, getting those important health checks and immunisations, and taking time to look after their wellbeing.

Our Vaka Tautua team were blessed to talanoa with people about strengthening employment goals, upskilling, and creating new opportunities.

We also talked about Tupe Wise, a great programme that helps us strengthen our relationship with money, build financial confidence, and work towards our goals.

This community dreams BIG, and it was a pleasure to share stories, and support the steps they’re taking towards a

Today we celebrated two cohorts completing their micro-credentials:

Tupe Wise: Building the Financial Capability of Families – Level 4 and Tupe Wise: Supporting Families to Achieve Financial Independence and Intergenerational Prosperity – Level 5

We are incredibly proud of every graduate who committed their time over the past few weeks to building their knowledge, confidence, and skills around financial capability. Congratulations and thank you to all the families who took part in this journey.

Today our head office was filled with Pacific knowledge and learning.

Our staff strengthened their first aid skills with Tongan organisation Manamoui, our Growing Strong Pacific Families participants heard from the Ministry of Social Development about employment support, and our Tupe Wise (Financial Capability) cohort continued building confidence around managing their money.

Different rooms, different kaupapa, but all focused-on supporting our Pacific communities.
