At our AGM and Prizegiving last week the Wall Family Junior Achievement Trophy for Outstanding Junior Performance was awarded to the U17 Girls Coxed Quad who won Gold at Maadi - Isla Moffett, Georgia Scammell, Zara McGillen, Tegan Marriot and Coxed by Eve Marshall.
The Fairplay Award went to Isla Moffett for amazing team effort.
The Martin Family Cup for distinguished performance was awarded to Veronica Wall who has been part of the NZ Rowing Team competing at the World Rowing Champs in Amsterdam. She rowed in both a double and the Women's 8.
The Hard Yards Trophy for going above and beyond - was awarded to Helen Hodge our wonderful Secretary who works tirelessly each month to keep all members informed and up to date and records meticulously all the workings of the club.
Bruce Welch, our Treasurer for the last 24 years (since the Club was formed) has retired - a huge thank you to Bruce for his expertise and guidance thru these times - we have all benefited from his knowledge - both Rowers and Administrators. A presentation was made to Bruce and Jacqui on behalf of the Club. We are very pleased to announce that Bruce has agreed to become our Patron - congratulations Bruce.

What comes after Maadi?

For many school rowers, finishing school can feel like the end of the road. But for Ged Wall, it was the beginning of a new chapter.

Now a fourth-year medical student at the University of Otago, Ged has continued to row at a high level while balancing the demands of medical school - culminating in representing New Zealand at the World University Rowing Championships in Canada.

From Ashburton College to the Otago University Rowing Club and the international stage, Ged’s journey shows there are pathways to keep rowing, keep chasing big goals and study in New Zealand.

In the first of our After Maadi series, discover Ged’s story and the opportunities available to rowers beyond school.
