The Rotaract Club of Federal University of Technology, Owerri, successfully held its highly anticipated "TRF & Garri Fellowship" on Sunday, 26th July 2026, at the FST Lecture Hall, SEET Complex, FUTO. The event brought together members, prospective Rotaractors, and guests for an afternoon centered around learning, community bonding, and shared experiences.

The fellowship provided a clear and practical breakdown of The Rotary Foundation (TRF), emphasizing how individual and collective donations power humanitarian efforts across the globe. Attendees gained valuable insights into the various funding channels, including the Annual Fund, PolioPlus Fund, and Endowment Fund, while learning how these contributions return to support both local community developments and large-scale international projects through structured grants. The discussions highlighted the fundamental principle that TRF exists to transform financial contributions into direct relief and sustainable progress for communities in need.

Following the educational session, attendees transitioned into the social segment of the gathering, enjoying bowls of cold garri paired with milk, sugar, groundnuts, and ice. The relaxed atmosphere allowed everyone to connect on a personal level, participate in group conversations, and build stronger relationships within the club. The combination of clear educational value and informal fellowship created a memorable experience that reinforced both our commitment to service and our strong sense of unity.

The Rotaract Club of Federal University of Technology, Owerri, successfully hosted its monthly talk titled "Beyond the Dollar: Understanding TRF & What it Means." The session served as an eye-opening platform for members and guests to gain a deeper understanding of how The Rotary Foundation functions as the core engine behind Rotary's global service work.

​During the lecture, our guest speaker, Rtr. Ibere Emmanuel Chidubem PHF+ (District Rotaract Representative Elect), alongside our host Rtr. Maximilian C. Obiekwe (TRF Chair RAC-FUTO), walked us through the true purpose of foundation giving. We learned that TRF is not just about collecting funds, but about transforming contributions into sustainable humanitarian projects, global grants, educational opportunities, and life-saving health initiatives like the fight to eradicate polio worldwide.

​The session broke down the different avenues through which members can contribute, including the Annual Fund, the PolioPlus Fund, and the Endowment Fund. We also explored how these donations directly return to support local and international community projects through District and Global Grants. Beyond the numbers and mechanics, the lecture emphasized the guiding philosophy that we give not because Rotary needs money, but because the world needs our help to create lasting change.
