Teaching Students How to Learn: Metacognitive Strategies

Most educators are trained to teach a subject.

We learn how to explain concepts, design lessons, assess understanding, and manage classrooms, but there is another essential skill that often receives far less attention, which is teaching students how to learn.

Many students are not struggling because they lack intelligence or potential, sometimes, they are struggling because no one has explicitly taught them how to study, how to monitor their understanding, how to recover from mistakes, or how to take responsibility for their learning.
