Women Environmental Programme

Women Environmental Programme WEP envisions a world where the lives of women and youth are positively transformed

WEP is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-religious and voluntary organization whose vision is to see a society where the environmental, economic and political rights of women, children and youths are protected. Our mission is to empower women and youths to effectively address the environmental, economic and political issues that affect them. WEP has United Nations ECOSOC special status, Observer

Status to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum and United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). With the Observer Status, WEP can participate as a major group organization in contributing to the intergovernmental decision-making process in the UN-System.

Despite technology being one of the fastest-growing sectors globally, women still make up only about 25–30% of ICT roles worldwide. This gap highlights a deeper issue, access, opportunity, and representation still matter.

ICT is no longer a niche field, it is embedded in everyday life. From communication and education to health systems, business, and even climate action, digital tools are shaping how the world responds to global challenges. Technology now plays a key role in environmental monitoring, climate data collection, disaster response, and building sustainable solutions.

Yet many girls still grow up without enough exposure, mentorship, or encouragement to explore opportunities in technology and innovation spaces that can also contribute to climate resilience.

Because when girls are included in ICT, they are not just entering a sector, they are contributing to innovation that can also protect people and the planet.

The digital future should be inclusive, and girls must be part of building it.

This World Earth Day is a reminder that the health of our planet is tied to our own survival. Every ecosystem we restore, every small action we take, brings us closer to a future where people and nature can truly thrive.

This is your moment to act. Rethink your choices, reduce your impact, and be part of the movement restoring our world.

This week, do not underestimate your role.
Do what you can, where you are, with what you have.

Because real change doesn’t happen all at once, it happens when people choose, again and again, to care enough to act.

🌱 What is one climate-conscious choice you are making this week?

🌾🐟🐄Last week, Women Environmental Programme (WEP) successfully trained 200 farmers on aquaponics and sustainable livestock production in Ajiwa community, Batagarawa Local Government Area of Katsina State, as well as Tavachan and Tijime communities in Katsina Ala LGA of Benue State.

The training was designed to boost food security, improve household incomes, and strengthen climate resilience among vulnerable farming and pastoralist communities. Through practical sessions and demonstrations, participants gained hands-on knowledge in aquaponics, organic farming, animal health, and climate-smart practices. The initiative also introduced community-based solutions such as rotational aquaponic farms and climate-smart mini ranches, equipping farmers with sustainable techniques to adapt to climate challenges, improve productivity, and create new income opportunities.

The training was part of the Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria (SPRiNG) initiative under the component known as Strengthening Peace and Resilience through Climate-Smart Agriculture (SPAR) in North Central and North West Nigeria. The project is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and implemented by Tetra Tech International Development Services and ActionAid Nigeria

Knowledge is power, but shared knowledge is transformation. ✊🏽
After gaining insights from the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) Digital Advocacy, Activism & Security training, we didn’t stop there.
