Plastic is often seen as waste. But what if it is actually a starting point?

Nigeria generates over 2.5 million tons of plastic waste every year, yet less than 15% is recycled.

That gap reveals a powerful opportunity for innovation.

Every plastic bottle holds more than waste. It holds potential: potential for new products, new businesses, and new ways of thinking.

On World Creativity and Innovation Day, the question is simple.

What can we create from what we usually throw away?

Because progress does not always come from new resources. Sometimes, it begins with seeing existing ones differently.

Young adolescents are already learning about s*xuality, just not always from the right places.

Findings from stakeholder engagement under the ongoing Very Young Adolescent Survey (VYAS) in Nigeria highlight a consistent pattern: adults are mostly silent, so young people turn to friends and the internet instead.

And that gap? It’s shaping what they believe and how they behave.

So, if young people are already learning from the world around them…
Why are adults still silent?

Today marks the grand finale of the Gender and Development Course (April Cohort) — and we’re ending on a powerful note.

As Nigeria approaches upcoming elections, we’re asking a critical question: How do we advance truly inclusive political participation?

Because when marginalized voices are excluded from decision-making spaces, representation suffers and so does democracy.

Yesterday at GDC Day 3, participants stepped into a dynamic session facilitated by our esteemed facilitators Hansatu Adegbite and Adekemi Omole exploring gender mainstreaming and gender analysis.

What stood out? A clear shift in understanding. Gender mainstreaming and Gender Analysis is no longer just a concept, it’s a core tool for how participants will approach their work going forward.

The conversations were rich, the perspectives challenged, and the learning deeply practical.

Power shapes policy. And policy shapes lives.

After diving into gender and power, our participants are seeing things differently; understanding how influence, access, and decision-making can either enable or limit progress.

The shift? Real. The learning? Expanding minds and perspectives.

We’re excited for what’s unfolding at the Gender and Development Course and we’re just getting started.

Day 1 at GDC ✨

A room full of energy, curiosity, and people ready to learn. Today, we explored the difference between s*x and gender, unpacked gender socialization, and reflected on the social constructs we often don’t even realize shape our everyday lives.

It was insightful, eye-opening, and honestly, just a really good day.

We’re excited for what Day 2 has in store and we can’t wait to share more clips, insights, and key takeaways with you.
