We were delighted to host students from Divine Mercy Primary and Secondary School, Asokoro, Abuja, for an educational excursion to the IHVN Campus.

The students had the opportunity to learn about our programs, explore our IT systems and infrastructure, gain insights into research and career development pathways, and participate in a guided tour of our laboratory facilities. The visit also featured an interactive Q&A session, allowing students to engage directly with our experts and deepen their understanding of science, research, and public health.

At IHVN, we remain committed to nurturing curiosity, encouraging learning, and inspiring young minds to pursue careers that will shape the future of healthcare and scientific discovery.

We are putting life‑saving tools in the hands of those who need them most. We recently trained health workers on BabyChecker, an AI‑powered smartphone ultrasound that detects deformities and danger signs early. It gives simple traffic‑light results: green for normal, yellow for caution, and red for immediate referral. And it works with just a phone and a small probe – no years of training required. This means pregnant women in remote communities can get checked early and safely. Every mother. Every unborn baby. That’s who we serve.

At the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA), global conversations on HIV and tuberculosis (TB) highlighted the urgent need for integrated, people-centred health systems, expanded community-led interventions, innovative diagnostics, and sustained efforts to address stigma and inequities in care.

The Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) is proud to be represented at the 79th WHA alongside the Nigerian delegation by Dr. Yusuf Oche, Director, Program Coordinating Unit, IHVN, and Dr. Olayemi Olupitan, Project Director, GC7 TB & HIV Project and N-THRIP, IHVN.

Their participation reflects Nigeria’s continued commitment to advancing the HIV/TB response, strengthening resilient health systems, and contributing to global health discussions that shape the future of healthcare delivery in Africa and beyond.
