Sir David Attenborough's story has been intertwined with ours, for decades.
It began over 70 years ago, when he accompanied our London Zoo keepers on animal-collecting expeditions for Zoo Quest - his very first presenting role, and the series that introduced millions of British TV viewers to previously unseen animals for the very first time. He has filmed at Whipsnade, our ZSL conservation zoo, helped open our Komodo dragon enclosure at London Zoo, and when Covid threatened to shut our doors, for good in 2020, Sir David stepped up to front our fundraising campaign to save them.
Tonight, in his centennial year, he turns his attention to Britain's gardens. Secret Garden begins on BBC One at 6pm - five episodes exploring the extraordinary wildlife living just ourside your window and how each of us can do our bit to help struggling species survive.
It is a message at the very heart of what we do. We inspire, inform, and empower people to protect and restore wildlife - and Sir David Attenborough has spent a lifetime doing exactly that.
Follow in his footsteps. Become a ZSL Fellow and join a global community taking meaningful action for wildlife - driving vital research, protecting species, and helping shape the future of conservation. Details on how to join are in the comments 👇
