Since 2021, Partners In Health Liberia (PIH-L) has been at the forefront of rebuilding Liberia’s health care landscape. Through the PIH and the Global Action in Nursing (GAIN) Scholarship Program, we’re investing in the next generation of midwifery professionals.

As technology evolves, the essence of health care remains unchanged: it’s about people. Kai-Fu Lee accurately stated, "In the AI age, the most valuable skills are not technical, but human – empathy, creativity, and teamwork."

Dr. Maxo Luma echoed this sentiment during his World Family Doctor Day speech. Let's harness technology to strengthen doctor-patient relationships, not diminish them.

Did you know that in 2016, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) accounted for an estimated 43% of all deaths and contributed to 37.9% of the national disease burden, as measured by Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs)?

By 2019, NCDs were responsible for approximately 32% of all deaths. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Disease Outlook 2023, the age-standardized mortality rate for four major NCDs—Cardiovascular Disease, Chronic Respiratory Disease, Cancer, and Diabetes—was 533 per 100,000 in males and 545 per 100,000 in females in 2021.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Partners In Health (PIH) is building Liberia’s next generation of healthcare providers through medical education, training, continuous mentorship, and support. Let's prioritize cardiovascular care together with the theme: "Controlling Hypertension Together!"

In a country with only 298 doctors for 5 million people, finding quality surgical care can feel impossible. Decontee's story exemplifies the urgent need for access to health care.

With PIH and the Maryland County Health Team working together, JJD Memorial Hospital has become a beacon of hope.

From 2019 to 2024, JJD completed 3,581 life-saving surgical cases, proving that health care is attainable, even in rural areas. Access to surgical care is a right, not a privilege. Read more at: pihliberia.org
