UNAIDS Caribbean

UNAIDS Caribbean Vision: Zero new HIV infections. Zero discrimination. Zero AIDS-related deaths.

The UNAIDS team offers the Caribbean the broad expertise of cosponsors and other UN organisations in areas such as program development and management, women and child health, education, legal networking, community care initiatives and resource mobilisation. The goal is an expanded response to HIV in the region with the world’s second highest HIV prevalence. UNAIDS fulfills its mission by:

Uniting the efforts of the United Nations system, civil society, national governments, the private sector, global institutions and people living with and most affected by HIV;

• Speaking out in solidarity with the people most affected by HIV in defense of human dignity, human rights and gender equality;

• Mobilizing political, technical, scientific and financial resources and holding ourselves and others accountable for results;

• Empowering agents of change with strategic information and evidence to influence and ensure that resources are targeted where they deliver the greatest impact and bring about a prevention revolution; and

• Supporting inclusive country leadership for sustainable responses that are integral to and integrated with national health and development efforts.

What is the ?

It’s where governments, communities, civil society and the UN come together to decide how the world stays on track to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. Because global commitments shape real-world access to HIV prevention, treatment, care, and rights.

Progress to end AIDS by 2030 is uneven and increasingly under threat, and the world cannot afford to lose momentum now.

This comes at a decisive political moment.

On June 22-23, 2026, global leaders will gather in New York to renew commitments and accelerate action to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.

Today, we celebrate the Turks and Caicos Islands on becoming the thirteenth country in the Caribbean to be certified by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for achieving this significant public health milestone.

Your commitment, your dedication, and your efforts have ensured expectant mothers are routinely tested and given antiretroviral to protect themselves so they can stay healthy and their babies can be born free of HIV.

We encourage the government of The Turks and Caicos Islands to ensure continued investments to protect the achievements were are celebrating today. That means stronger, integrated maternal, newborn and child health services; reliable access to quality-assured medicines, diagnostics and supplies; action to tackle stigma and discrimination; and support for community-led responses that help women and families stay connected to care.

Congratulations to The Bahamas on eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

Kudos to the The Ministry of Health & Wellness Bahamas, The Bahamas AIDS Foundation Bahamas National AIDS Programme PAHO Caribbean and other partners.

This achievement reflects strong political will, steady investment in primary health care and strong partnerships with people living with and most affected by HIV.

UNAIDS is a proud partner of the Elimination Platform, and we look forward to continuing this collaboration with PAHO and all partners toward more certifications like this across our region.

We encourage the Government of The Bahamas to sustain investment and protect these hard-won gains.
