Many of our student athletes have been severely impacted by Hurricane Melissa, losing roofs, school supplies, and electronic devices. With the reopening of school, many parents are struggling to send their children or wards back to the classroom.

We have been doing our part by reaching out and offering as much support as possible.

Although many of our Old Boys may also have been affected, we are still humbly seeking your assistance to help restore stability and a sense of normalcy for our student athletes.

We are therefore requesting monetary donations.
Additionally, Munro shirts will be on sale, and all proceeds will go directly to supporting the student athletes.

Anyone interested in contributing can contact the Old Boys Association. Cost -$4,000

Munro College has again been damaged by Hurricane Melissa, however, not as extensively as we were last year by Hurricane Beryl. The impact has affected not only the physical structure of our beloved school but also the extensive community from which our students are drawn.

The Damage and Its Effects
Classrooms, boarding facilities, the library, teachers cottages, and recreational facilities have been severely compromised. Essential educational resources were lost, and the infrastructure now requires significant repairs to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for current and future students.

Old Pearman Calder building which housed classrooms on two floors and the IT Department on the ground level lost its roof and lots of water damage to classrooms and most critically, extreme damage to the IT Department.

The campus is supplied by gravity-fed water tanks and we have lost all eight 800-gallon tanks and the connection system on the roof of Dickenson Sangster.

Sections of the old Coke House building were also damaged, causing water to flood the dining room and the loss of about 75% of the dining room furniture that was recently acquired.

Other buildings had similar damage including:
-The Biology Lab Building
-The Old Library that houses the Junior IT Lab
-Sections of the Chemistry lab building
-The music room on the main auditorium

-A significant number of windows blown out on the first form block
-Damage was also done to four Teacher’s cottages, ranging from mild to severe. Teachers had to move out of these cottage spaces

Munro has always been a beacon of hope, nurturing generations of students and fostering academic excellence. In the aftermath of the hurricane, the sense of normalcy and continuity that our alma mater provides is threatened, impacting both students and faculty alike.

The Ministry of Education should cover the cost of some buildings and equipment, so the MCOBA need your support to fund the following priorities:
• Repair the roof top and replace the water system at Dickenson Sangster Building
• Replace and upgrade the Solar panels and inverters to give adequate power to the campus
• Repair at least three teachers’ cottages (lumber, zinc, screws and nails)
• Repair and complete upgrade of electrical wiring system across campus (need wires, 2ft/4ft led tubes, dusk to dawn solar lamps etc.)
• 40 Desk top computers with monitors to retrofit the IT Lab
Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference in our recovery efforts.

In Loving Memory of Our Munronian Brothers!!

With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of two of our beloved Munronian brothers, Richard ‘Flappy’ Clarke and Hugh Francis-Oneal ‘Fitzy’ Barnes both were class of ’77, who transitioned from this life following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.

Their loss is deeply felt across our entire community, as we come together to remember their spirit, their friendship, and the impact they had on all who knew them.

Though their time with us was cut short by this tragic event, their memory will forever remain a guiding light within the Munronian family. We cherish the moments shared, the laughter, and the camaraderie that defined their presence among us.

As we mourn, let us also celebrate their lives—marked by kindness, resilience, and genuine love for those around them. Their legacy will endure in our hearts and in the stories we share.

Executive MCOBA and its membership express sincere condolences and prayers to their families, friends, and all those who grieve this profound loss.

May we find strength in unity and comfort in the love that surrounds us.

Prayer Meeting, Tribute and Thanksgiving Service!!

A Tribute to a Life of Service and Dedication-Courtney Haughton Class’72.

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Munronian Courtney Haughton, Class ‘72, who passed away on Sunday, August 10th, 2025, after a brief illness.

Courtney was an exemplary individual—a former member of the Executive Committee of Munro College Old Boys’ Association whose legacy of service, vision, and integrity has indelibly shaped our community.
As we gather in remembrance, we reflect not only upon the accomplishments achieved during his tenure, but also upon the enduring impact of his compassion, leadership, and commitment to fostering unity and excellence among Munronians.

Upon joining the MCOBA Executive Committee, Courtney was an outstanding member and quickly became a beacon of guidance and encouragement for both new and longstanding members. Whether organizing events, spearheading outreach initiatives, or advocating for the welfare of fellow Munronian, he approached every task with humility, diligence, and a genuine desire to uplift those around them.

His tenure as an Executive member was marked by innovation and bold decision-making. Recognizing the evolving needs of the alumni body, he championed programs aimed at reconnecting Munronian students attending University of West Indies and University of Technology, forging mentorship networks, and establishing lasting partnerships with local organizations. Under his stewardship, the association flourished membership grew, engagement deepened, and the sense of community was revitalized.

Among his many contributions, Courtney was instrumental in assisting with the MCOBA Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Month-End Socials—a celebration that not only honoured the achievements of Munronians but also raised crucial funds for scholarship programs, infrastructure improvements, and outreach efforts.

To the Haughton’s family, friends, and loved ones of our outstanding former executive member, the Munro College Old Boys’ Association Executive and its membership extend our deepest sympathies. May you find comfort in the knowledge that Courtney’s legacy will endure in the hearts and minds of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In remembrance, we stand together united in sorrow, in gratitude, and in hope for the future.
