Ridglan Farms, the Wisconsin-based breeding facility that supplies dogs for animal testing, plans to sell approximately 1,500 dogs to rescue organizations. While this is a positive outcome for these specific dogs, there are tens of thousands of other dogs and other animals in the same horrific situation.

Animal tests are inaccurate predictors of human response to medicines. An astonishing 90-95% of drugs that pass animal tests go on to fail in human clinical trials.

Something along the lines of: “As your constituent, I urge you to oppose any Farm Bill that seeks to nullify state animal protection laws, like Section 12006 in H.R. 7567. California’s Prop 12 and other state animal welfare laws were approved by voters and should be preserved.”

As Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month draws to a close, we here at Kinship Circle want to remind you that we all must play a part in protecting animals.

1. If you witness animal abuse or neglect, please report it to your local animal control agency.

2. Record evidence including dates and times to present to authorities.

3. If you need support with a case, contact Animal Legal Defense Fund, a nonprofit organization focused on convicting animal abusers.

4. Call and write legislators and prosecuting attorneys to demand maximum penalties for animal abusers.

Kinship Circle Founder and President, Brenda Shoss, served as a spokesperson for SHAC USA (Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty). She marched beside activists with a common purpose: to close Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS), one of the world’s largest contract animal research laboratories. HLS annually killed some 180,000 animals to test pesticides, fertilizers, cleaners, cosmetics, sweeteners, drugs, etc.

SHAC USA formed in 2001 to shut down Huntingdon Life Sciences. They targeted HLS customers, suppliers and financiers in an unrelenting campaign of letters, emails, faxes and unprecedented national/local protests. On March 2nd, 2006, SHAC USA leaders were imprisoned for the crime of free speech under the Animal Enterprise Protection Act – an obscure law to protect animal industry profits. Nothing within the animal rights movement has equaled the unity, clarity and presence of SHAC USA.
