🏅 Nominations are open for the 2026 IUPAP C10 Early Career Scientist Prize!

The IUPAP Commission on Structure and Dynamics of Condensed Matter (C10) is seeking nominations for its 2026 Early Career Scientist Prize, recognizing outstanding achievements and exceptional promise in experimental, computational or theoretical condensed matter physics.

The Prize consists of 1,000 CHF, a Medal and a Certificate, and will be presented in 2027 at the APS Global Physics Summit in Atlanta.

IUPAP particularly welcomes nominations of outstanding women and scientists from other underrepresented groups.

🏅 Nominations are now open for the 2027 IUPAP Magnetism Award and Néel Medal!

Presented every three years, the award recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of magnetism and will be presented at the International Conference on Magnetism (ICM 2027) in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Nominations of outstanding women and candidates from under-represented groups are particularly encouraged.

🇯🇵 IUPAP at ICPS2026 in Tokyo

More than 800 participants gathered in Tokyo for the 37th International Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors (ICPS2026), one of the leading international meetings for the semiconductor physics community.

IUPAP was represented by Prof. Gloria Platero, Chair of the IUPAP Commission on Semiconductors (C8), who took part in several moments of the conference.

👩‍🔬 On Sunday, Prof. Platero participated in a special Women and Physics session together with Prof. Junko Ishi-Hayase of Keio University.

The Opening Ceremony on 17 August was attended by Her Imperial Highness Princess Aiko, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike and other representatives of the scientific community and Japanese institutions. Prof. Platero addressed participants on behalf of IUPAP.

🏅 IUPAP C8 also celebrated the winners of the Early Career Scientist Prize in Semiconductor Physics: Kenji Yasuda (Cornell University) and Natalia Kopteva (TU Dortmund University), who received their medals and diplomas and presented their research during a dedicated session.

With plenary talks, parallel sessions and poster presentations, ICPS2026 was an important occasion to share the latest research and strengthen international collaboration in semiconductor physics.

🌍 The official website of ICWIP2027 is now live!

We are excited to announce the launch of the website for the 9th International Conference on Women in Physics (ICWIP2027), which will take place 7–11 June 2027 at the National University of Singapore.

Organized every three years by the IUPAP Working Group on Women in Physics (WG5), ICWIP brings together the global physics community to share research, exchange experiences, and advance equity, diversity, and inclusion in physics.

The new website includes information on the conference, venue, programme, travel, and participation, with more updates to come in the coming months.

👤 Meet the Chair of C18: Mathematical Physics

We are pleased to introduce Simone Warzel, Chair of the IUPAP Commission on Mathematical Physics (C18).

A Professor of Mathematical Quantum Physics at the TU München, his research focuses on mathematical quantum physics. As Chair of C18, he promotes international exchange across the broad field of mathematical physics, fostering collaboration between researchers and strengthening ties with organizations such as the International Association of Mathematical Physics (IAMP) and the Association of Women in Mathematical Physics (AWMP).

👤 Meet the Chair of C17: Laser Physics and Photonics

We are pleased to introduce Kathy Lüdge, Chair of the IUPAP Commission on Laser Physics and Photonics (C17).

A Full Professor of Computational Physics at the Technische Universität Ilmenau, her research spans nonlinear dynamics, laser modeling, photonics, and neuromorphic computing. Her work explores how optical systems can enable efficient analog computing, while also advancing the understanding of nanostructured semiconductor lasers and their emission dynamics.

🌍 The Commission on Laser Physics and Photonics (C17) promotes international collaboration and the exchange of knowledge across the global community working in laser physics, photonics, and quantum electronics, fostering scientific progress and cooperation in these rapidly evolving fields. ⚛️
