Nobel Laureates and Citizens Launch “Satyagraha” Hunger Strike: Will President von der Leyen Choose EU Principles or Complicity with Trump and Putin?

On 14 April 2026, Eumans and No Peace Without Justice (NPWJ) will launch a European-wide Satyagraha—a disciplined, 63-day relay hunger strike—to hold European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen accountable to her legal and institutional duties. The mobilization demands that the EU finally defend the International Criminal Court (ICC) from a dual-assault of sanctions and criminal reprisals orchestrated by the United States and Russia.

Health Care in the Dark: The Human Cost of Russia’s Attacks on Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure

Side Event on the margins of the 61st Session of the UN Human Rights Council Conference Room Concordia I, Palais des Nations, Geneva

Co-Sponsored by: Permanent Missions to the UN Geneva of Ukraine, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Moldova, Montenegro and Netherlands
Organised by: No Peace Without Justice (NPWJ) and Truth Hounds, in cooperation with Physicians for Human Rights

WHY THIS MATTERS
📌 Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy grid
deliberately target civilians, violating
international humanitarian law and
potentially constituting crimes against
humanity.
📌 The health impacts disproportionately
harm vulnerable groups, including
dialysis patients, children, older adults,
and those reliant on electricity for care.
📌 These health harms are
underdocumented, and this event
argues for closing that evidence gap.

WHAT TO EXPECT
📌 Field research by Truth Hounds and
Physicians for Human Rights documents
measurable health harms from
systematic power disruptions.
📌 Expert analysis examines legal
accountability frameworks, including the
roles of the ICC and UN human rights
mechanisms.
📌 A structured dialogue brings together
states, organisations, and civil society to
address evidentiary gaps hindering
accountability.
