At the Milan edition, Aldo Melpignano, Founder of EGNAZIA - Ospitalità Italiana, joined the roundtable on Governance, Innovation and Sustainability, contributing his perspective on how business can remain deeply connected to people, places and local communities.

During the event, he was also recognised with the "Regenerative Leader Award", celebrating a leadership approach that brings together entrepreneurship, identity, sustainability and long-term value creation.

🌍 Every day, 16.4 billion hours of unpaid care work are performed worldwide. Women account for 76.2% of it, while 708 million women remain outside the labour force because of unpaid care responsibilities.

If this work were valued economically, it would amount to around $11 trillion — about 9% of global GDP. And the pressure is set to grow: by 2050, the world will have 2.1 billion people aged 60 or older.

Care is one of the conditions that makes the economy possible.
The real question is not only how much value we can create, but what we are willing to sustain so that value can endure.

The world is entering an age of interconnected risks.

According to the World Economic Forum Global Risks Report 2026, environmental risks remain among the most severe long-term challenges, while technological, geopolitical and societal pressures are increasingly interconnected.

⚠️ 5 of the 10 most severe long-term global risks are environmental.
🌍 100+ billion tonnes of materials are extracted and consumed globally every year.
🌱 Only 6.9% of the global economy is circular.

These numbers reveal a deeper challenge.
The future requires the ability to understand systems, anticipate connections and build responses that strengthen the foundations of our shared future.

At the Milan edition of Common Home, Danilo Marco Perrucci, Global Head at BIP.Verco, delivered a keynote titled “The Death of Sustainability”.

His message was not that sustainability has lost its meaning, but that the way we have practiced it may no longer be enough for an age of permacrisis.

From CSR to ESG, sustainability has evolved.
Today, regeneration asks for a deeper shift: from resilience to robustness, from impact to positive peace, from ESG performance to system strategy.

His contribution reminded us that the future of business cannot be built only by optimizing the existing system.
It requires the courage to redesign it 🌱

🤝 Organisational culture is shaped through the interactions that define everyday working life.

A global survey of nearly 20,000 employees found respect to be one of the most important factors in shaping a positive workplace experience.

📉 At the other end of the spectrum, 58% of employees reported reducing their effort after experiencing incivility at work.

The contrast is telling: behaviours we often dismiss as simple matters of etiquette can have tangible organisational consequences.

The global debate on Beyond GDP starts from a simple but urgent question: can we keep measuring success mainly through economic output, while the systems that sustain life, trust and communities become more fragile?

GDP remains an important indicator.
But it was never designed to capture everything that matters: wellbeing, inequality, environmental quality, social cohesion, resilience or the ability of future generations to thrive.

At the London edition of Common Home, Rayan Azhari, Senior Sustainability Consultant at Verco, joined us with an intervention on sustainable reconstruction in post-war regions.

Through his perspective, he explored how rebuilding cannot be limited to infrastructure alone, but must also consider communities, ecosystems, resilience and long-term value creation.

His contribution reminded us that reconstruction is not only about restoring what has been lost.

It is about designing the conditions for territories to recover, adapt and regenerate over time.

When sustainability becomes part of reconstruction, recovery can become a path toward a more resilient and shared future 🌱

🌍 Humanity is a responsibility we choose to practice.

On World Humanitarian Day, we honour the humanitarian workers and communities who protect life, dignity and hope in some of the world’s most fragile contexts.

Their work reminds us that leadership is not measured only by power, visibility or strategy. It is measured by the courage to care, to protect and to stand with others when dignity is most at risk.

For Common Home, humanity is a form of leadership because it asks institutions, organizations and communities to place dignity at the centre of every decision.
