Circolo Scandinavo aims at offering residencies for Nordic artists in the studio apartments in Rome, in order to strengthen and develop the individual Nordic artists' work, and to increase dialogue and network between the Nordic artists in an international context. The artists-in-residence can focus on their individual artistic work, as well as networking and promotion within the framework of a fl

exible artist-in-residence programme. Circolo Scandinavo organizes events and artist talks to expose the Nordic artists in Rome. Circolo Scandinavo’s Residence in Rome for Nordic Artists is a unique institution. It offers artists from five Nordic countries, and from all forms of art, residency for one or more months under the same roof to work in an interdisciplinary, inter-Nordic environment. This happens nowhere else and is of importance both to each individual artist and to the cultural life of the individual countries as well as to the experience of a common Nordic artistic identity in an international context. The Director – a Nordic artist – has the overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the Residence. Since 2012 the director is Ingo Arnason (Iceland), Theatre director, . Since 2006 the Circolo has been located in Via della Lungara, in a large, spacious apartment in the stately “Casino di Vigna” from the 16th century as a neighbour to Villa Farnesina and opposite Palazzo Corsini where the Swedish Queen Christina spent the last 35 years of her life.

🌷ARTIST IN RESIDENCE AFFILIATED 🌷

We at Circolo Scandinavo are pleased to have Aunis Ahonen from Finland here who has been selected for the short term residency by Kuvittajat ry (The Finnish Illustration Association).

”I am currently working on an illustration project about acedia and melancholy, inspired by art history, ancient creatures, guiding figures, dreams, fantasy, and the subconscious. Rome offers a fantastic environment for exploring these themes.

Alongside my artistic practice, I am also studying horticulture with a focus on floral design, and discovering historical gardens will be another source of inspiration during my residency.

🌟MEET THE ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE 🌟

The Norwegian artist Andrea Lange spent the month of February at Circolo Scandinavo. During her time at Circolo and in Rome, forgotten memories came back to life. Andrea describes that perception of time feels strange here — the lifestyle keeps you in the moment, simultaneously as the surroundings constantly makes the history reminded.
