Look at these smiles.
These are the children of the School of Peace in Goma, and today, on Africa Day, they hold up the image of Floribert — a young man from here, one of them, who proved that changing things is possible. Despite everything, these classrooms today are full.
Full of voices, of eagerness to learn, of hope.
This is the Africa that Sant'Egidio knows and loves.

The first container of aid arrived in Havana on Saturday 9 May, delivering 22,000 kg of rice and flour. This is the first of a series of humanitarian shipments made possible thanks to a fundraising campaign participated in by all the Communities of Sant’Egidio worldwide. Another container with 24,000 kg of food aid is currently on its way to Santiago de Cuba.

On Friday 15 May, another shipment of humanitarian aid departed from the port of Genoa bound for Cuba. The container includes medicines, medical supplies, and mobility aids (wheelchairs) worth approximately €700,000, provided by Rome and through a contribution from Banco Farmaceutico.

Further food aid will continue to arrive throughout the month of June, with an additional 50,000 kg of oil, flour, legumes, and sugar packed into two containers heading for the island's ports of Santiago and Havana.

8th May 2025: one single word, before the world. Peace.

In one year of pontificate, that invitation has become a journey. That word has turned into gestures, travels, and silences shared with those in pain. In a world marked by conflicts that seem endless, the Pope has continued to point in the same direction: building bridges where walls arise, seeking dialogue even when it seems impossible, and staying close to those who suffer — without ever growing weary.
