From Estonia to Palermo: ten months of volunteering and new discoveries

“This experience taught me how to adapt, slow down, and appreciate the simple things. If you’re thinking about joining an ESC project, my advice is: do it. It will change your life.”

Mariann took part in a long term ESC volunteering project with Associazione InformaGiovani in Palermo, contributing to activities of non formal education, youth support, and European project management. She also helped welcome international volunteers and assisted in the organisation of youth exchanges and volunteer camps. In addition, she led a personal finance workshop for local young people.

Empoweing personal participation and improving quality of international volunteering.🌍

Together with our Belgian partner Svi Asbl - Service Volontaire International, we organised in Louvain la Neuve an information and preparation moment for a a group of volunteers taking part in the network’s international projects.

The session prepared participants for intercultural experiences abroad, providing them with useful tools to approach international volunteering in an informed, proactive and safe manner.

The objectives of the training were:

intercultural preparation: developing cultural awareness, understanding differences and managing conflicts in international contexts;

participatory methodologies: practical activities, personal accounts and group work to encourage active involvement;

flexible programmes: face to face sessions organised throughout the year, designed to suit participants’ needs.

Through trainings like this, our network helps to promote mutual understanding, responsibility and informed participation in international volunteering experiences, strengthening young people active and democratic participation.

This activity was part of the IGNet annual workplan, supported by the of the European Union, which supports initiatives aimed at strengthening equality, the protection of fundamental rights and civic participation within the European Union.

Amarante hosted the youth exchange “INCLUSION: Erasmus+ for all!”

Twenty young people aged between 16 and 20 from various European countries took part in a programme centred on learning, creativity and sharing.

Through non formal education activities, the participants collaborated on cultural and community initiatives as part of the Festival da Juventude de Amarante (Há Fest).

The activity, organised by AMC Aventura Marão Clube, aimed to:

• promote active inclusion by engaging young people, particularly in the creation of community cultural events using non-formal education methodologies;

• healthy lifestyles, by promoting responsible consumption, active participation and outdoor activities such as hiking and canoeing, whilst showcasing Amarante’s natural landscapes: the Marão, Aboboreira and Alvão mountains, and the Tâmega and Olo rivers;

• digital skills, enhancing participants’ digital skills to raise the profile of the Erasmus+ Programme and European opportunities in the local area.

It was an experience that brought together cultures, ideas and people, demonstrating how Erasmus+ can be a real driving force for inclusion, personal growth and active citizenship.

Designing, testing and turning a game into an experience for the planet! ♟️

The international team meeting of Give climate a ChanCe has come to an end. The project turns games into an educational tool to explore climate change and encourage greater awareness of environmental issues.

After months of collaborative work, including local and international meetings and opportunities to engage with young people, we met with our international partners to finalise the project’s key decisions and the materials that will be used in the educational activities.

The project aims to:

• use games as an inclusive and effective methodology, capable of engaging young people from different backgrounds;

• strengthen active participation in civic life by providing accessible and practical tools to understand climate issues and take action.

A journey that shows how games can become a concrete tool for raising environmental awareness, promoting social inclusion and encouraging active citizenship.

Implemented by InformaGiovani together with its international partners ShareEurope (Bulgaria), Equação (Portugal), Radi Vidi Pats (Latvia) and Ambitia (Slovenia).

Funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ programme.

Group volunteering in Polia: introducing the Kalabria Eco Fest!

Let’s relive the energy of the Kalabria Eco Project through these photos!
Gigliara di Polia became the beating heart of sustainability, creativity, and inclusion.

Young volunteers from all over Europe spent two weeks sharing work, nature, and community with a common goal: preparing the Kalabria Eco Fest and rediscovering the land through authentic experiences.

What made this experience so special?

• growth and creativity: learning by doing through hands on construction and local material reuse workshops;
• cultural exchange: stories, songs, dances, and traditional cooking shared among people from different countries;
• local impact: promoting sustainable practices, ecology, and circular economy.

The participants' dedication led to an intense and vibrant festival day, welcoming hundreds of people in an atmosphere of conscious fun and respect for the environment.

A heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this exchange magical, and to all those who choose to live in harmony with nature every day!

This project is funded by the (ESC).

Saving the planet and building active citizenship through educational games!

This was the driving spirit of the "Give climate a ChanCe" project hosted at Casa da Juventude in Amarante, Portugal, with the support of the Programme.

Participants from across Europe gathered to test and refine new game-based learning tools coordinated by InformaGiovani alongside our partner organisations Share Europe (Bulgaria), Equação (Portugal), Radi Vidi Pats (Latvia), and Ambitia (Slovenia).

The goal? Putting climate action at the centre by turning complex environmental issues into engaging challenges and interactive learning.
By playing together and exploring local sustainable initiatives around Amarante, young people reflected on their daily habits and learned how to reduce their ecological footprint.

Thanks to Erasmus+, this is a great opportunity to show how non formal education and gamification can become powerful tools to engage citizens, especially young people, in the fight against the climate crisis!

From Sabadell to Palermo: seven months of volunteering that leave a mark

"I would recommend an ESC volunteering experience to every young person. It is a unique opportunity to grow, improve your language skills and discover different cultures. It is an adventure that helps you see the world from a wider perspective."

The workcamp at the Isola delle Femmine nature reserve has come to an end!

For two weeks, our volunteers supported LIPU's staff in restoring the flora, watering plants, re-building stone paths and cleaning the protected area from the litter brought in by the sea.

This project was also a genuine experience of intercultural exchange, international volunteers from different cultures lived and worked together, sharing everyday moments, ideas and perspectives. Working side by side and discovering each other's traditions turned the workcamp into a space of dialogue and mutual understanding, because taking care of a shared place is also a way of learning to live together.

Thank you to LIPU and to all the volunteers who took part!

This activity was part of the IGNet annual workplan, supported by the of the European Union, which supports initiatives aimed at strengthening equality, the protection of fundamental rights and civic participation within the European Union.

With the Emmaus Palermo 2026 summer camp, the community experienced a journey full of educational activities, workshops and moments of sharing.

For the volunteers who took part, it was a chance to get to know the reality of Emmaus up close. Not only the core values of the association, but also its concrete everyday work: the second-hand market, where objects come back to life instead of becoming waste, and the solidarity actions that the movement carries out in the local area.

The days alternated between training sessions and activities at the market. The group discussed integral ecology, peace, the right to move freely, and the fight against the Mafia: themes that may seem distant from one another, but that the camp showed to be deeply connected.

And this is the most important lesson: the participants were able to grasp how necessary it is to weave together knowledge and struggles, and to learn to read the injustices of our time not as isolated events, but as the product of a system that requires collective action to be dismantled.

A collective action that does not come out of nowhere: it is nourished by being together, by preparing and sharing meals, by time spent side by side, and by the creation of networks that last beyond the volunteering camp.

This activity was part of the IGNet annual workplan, supported by the of the European Union, which supports initiatives aimed at strengthening equality, the protection of fundamental rights and civic participation within the European Union.
