Wicklow LCSP had the pleasure of presenting to Wicklow Older People’s Council Executive Committee in Clermont yesterday.

Wicklow Older People’s Council Executive Committee met on the morning of 2nd September, for their sixth meeting of 2026. The group is working on their actions in the Wicklow Age Friendly Strategy, and are preparing for the Age Friendly Expo on the 23rd October in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh. The theme of the Expo is falls prevention, It’s never too late: Staying strong and active. Invest in yourself now.

It was a lively meeting with strong ideas and actions agreed on by the group. One discussion point was the importance of promoting the work of the Older People’s Council, and of welcoming all those over the age of 55, to be involved all things Age Friendly. The group then stayed on after lunch, to be joined by additional members for the Wicklow Local Community Safety Partnership consultation for older people, where An Garda Síochána presented on Cyber security and Pat Duggan presented from Muintir Na Tire on community safety. We look forward to meeting with Age friendly members again. Their insights are invaluable to our safety plan.

📣 NEW REPORT: The Year Little Changed

CyberSafeKids has released its latest report, The Year Little Changed: More Regulation, More AI, Same Old Problems. Based on insights from over 7,000 Irish children aged 8-15, the report highlights how young people are using technology today and the online risks they continue to face.

Despite increased regulation and the rapid growth of AI, many of the same challenges remain. A valuable read for parents, educators, policymakers, and anyone committed to creating a safer online environment for children and young people.

We're delighted to share CyberSafeKids' latest report, The Year Little Changed​: More Regulation, More AI, Same Old Problems​ — marking a decade of monitoring the online risks facing children and young people in Ireland.

​Over ​7,000+ pupils ​aged 8–15 ​shared their experiences during the 202​5-2​6 academic year, ​giving us an important, first-hand insight into what digital childhood looks like today. ​T​he report explores not only how they ​are accessing and us​ing technology but also the ​risks and vulnerabilities ​t​hey continue to face online.

And the message is clear: despite more regulation and the rapid rise of AI, little has changed.

The voices of children are at the heart of this report, shining a light on the realities of growing up online — and the urgent work still needed to make the digital world safer.

As children head back to school, our new Child Casualties Report 2021–2025 shines a light on the risks children face every day on Irish roads.

📊 38 children aged 0–15 lost their lives.
💔 620 children were seriously injured.
🚶‍♀️🚲 Almost 2 in 3 child casualties were pedestrians or cyclists.
🚶 48% were pedestrians.
🚗 7 in 10 were injured on roads with speed limits of 60km/h or less.
🎒 1 in 8 were travelling to or from school when the collision happened.

These aren’t just statistics. They are children, families and communities.

As schools reopen, every journey matters.

👉 Slow down around schools and in residential areas.
👉 Give children extra space and time.
👉 Put the phone away.
👉 Make sure children are properly restrained in the car.
👉 Take extra care when children are walking or cycling.

The safest journey is the one where everyone gets home.

Recently, we had the opportunity to meet with representatives from the Irish Farmers' Association (IFA) in Wicklow as part of our public consultation process. The meeting provided valuable insights into the issues affecting our rural communities, with a particular focus on farm safety, crime prevention, road safety, and community wellbeing.

We would like to thank the IFA members who attended and shared their experiences, concerns, and ideas. Their input will help shape local community safety priorities and ensure that the voices of the farming community are reflected in future planning and initiatives.

Heading to Electric Picnic this weekend? Traffic is expected around Stradbally from Thursday through Monday.

Where possible, skip the traffic and hop on the train to Portlaoise or Portarlington and grab the shuttle bus straight to the site. If you are driving:

🚗 Make sure you and those with you are belted up.
👀 Keep your eyes on the road - leave the DJ duty to someone else for the journey, or have a set playlist before heading off.
