A massive thank you to the Wicklow & District Lions Club for coming to our rescue with an extremely generous donation of €1000 to help us replace the missing defibrillator down at scouts Ireland on south Quay.

As most of you know one of our community AED’s was stolen recently, and has not yet been recovered. This is a lifesaving piece of equipment and having access to one is quite literally, the difference between life and death!

This missing AED meant one of our community CFRs had to take theirs out of operation, to ensure a public access one was made available.

Last training evening, our responders took part in three realistic scenarios designed to mirror real-life callouts — from receiving a text alert, to navigating through town, and entering homes to put their skills into practice. 🚑👏
These exercises are a vital part of keeping our team prepared, confident, and ready to respond when needed most.
A huge thank you to Aileen Hogan and Rota McAulay for kindly opening up their homes for the training and for their excellent acting skills too — you both made the scenarios feel very real! 😊🏡

Hands for Life training took place at the De La Salle Pastoral Centre in Wicklow Town on April 18th, bringing together residents from St. Patrick’s Avenue and Avondale Manor. Both communities recently received Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) as part of the Beating Hearts - Wicklow initiative in partnership with Wicklow County Councel, aimed at making life-saving equipment more accessible within local neighbourhoods.

The training session was organised by Wicklow Town Community First Responders, with instructors Myrtle McElwee and Karl Canavan delivering practical guidance to more than thirty participants.

Each year in Ireland, thousands of people die from cardiac arrest, with over 70% of incidents occurring in the home. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) plays a critical role in the chain of survival following a cardiac arrest. Individuals who have received CPR training are up to ten times more likely to respond effectively in an emergency.

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the course. You have now learned how to perform CPR — a simple but vital skill that could one day save a life.

We are still looking for our missing AED, any info is appreciated.

PUBLIC APPEAL - Missing Defibrillator

The Public Access Defibrillator at Scouts Ireland on South Quay was taken from its box in the last few days.
This may have been taken to be used with good intentions, but it has not yet been returned.

A Defibrillator is a Life Saving piece of equipment and could be the difference between Life and Death if used within a couple of minutes on a person in Cardiac Arrest. Tampering with life-saving equipment is a serious offence.

We have temporarily replaced this machine with one of our own Operational Defibrillators to ensure the area still has a Publicly Accessible Defib.

The missing Defibrillator is a Radian Heart Guardian AED, as pictured.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of the Defibrillator, please let us know on 086 830 9109.

We are asking everyone to ensure that all approaches to medical facilities are kept clear at all times. This is essential for emergency services, patients attending appointments, and healthcare staff—including those working in hospitals, in the community, and in patients’ homes.

Attending hospital or receiving treatment in the community, whether in an emergency situation or for a routine appointment, is a vulnerable time for a patient and their family.

Please respect the critical need for clear and safe access to all healthcare services, to ensure that access to care is never compromised.
