This week in OT club we did some fun transformative play and melted large ice blocks with salt and friction to free our miniatures.

Transformative play can be very regulating because it is predictable and satisfying. Other kinds include shredding, laminating, and of course baking ☺️

The benefits of a farm school (part one of many)

Emotional development — Caring for animals builds empathy, compassion, and emotional regulation in children.

Responsibility — Feeding, cleaning, and monitoring an animal teaches consistent accountability.

Reduced stress and anxiety — Animal interaction is proven to lower cortisol levels, helping students feel calmer and more focused.

Engagement and motivation — Animals spark curiosity and make learning more exciting, especially for students who struggle with traditional methods.

Science learning — Direct observation of animal behavior, life cycles, and biology brings curriculum to life.

Social skills — Shared care of a classroom pet encourages teamwork and gives students a common talking point, helping shy kids connect.
