MEET THE COMMITTEE:

I'm Adam Mawdesley an ordinary committee member and also the self promoted group photoshopper. Where I turn bad photos of the group members into even worse pictures on the fly. I moved to Longford 22 years ago the town never truly lost me after that.

*Your hopes for the community:*

For this group to be it's own version of a social hub for any ages or backgrounds. I want it to be a tool to share hobby interests that isn't just TTRPG, but many different events like hikes, kayaking, archery and lots more opportunities. If there's a collective few that share a hobby then we can be a platform to help arrange that. After all we are the Midlands Adventurer's Guild. Not only that but to be a safe space or respite for members. This group has been a huge help for mental health for a lot of members including myself and to be able support, aid or distract anyone from their issues would be fantastic.

*How you got into TTRPGs*

I've always had a huge interest in it, but never the opportunity until about six years ago a group of friends and I ran a small campaign and I was hooked. Unfortunately the campaign didn't go on too long with life commitments and COVID affecting it, but I never lost the hunger to play again. I was looking on Facebook and stumbled on a newly made group and found that a few lads had only just started meeting up. I asked to join which was only about 4 sessions in and have had the luxury of seeing this group grow from 7 members to what it is today!

*Who and what you play.*

On the nearly two and a half year campaign that has just finished (big shout out to Eoin Moran the DM) I played as Whisp Longbreath, who was an Air Genasi Paladin, almost think an air bender from Avatar, but can take hard hits and hit back even harder. He was the chosen champion of the Goddess Akadi and with some "accidental mishap" became the champion of an evil God called Talos. You'd think he'd have learnt his lesson, however with some more "accidental mishaps" lost the power of both my gods when they got captured by an even bigger evil God who also wanted him to be his champion. All of this was sorted by the end and I rekindled my honest God/Champion relationship with Akadi again when he managed to save her towards the end.

*Your stand out TTRPG memory/moment.*

I have so many and it's so hard to break it down to just a moment, but from the main campaign it has to be when I was dusted in front on the party where nobody knew what happened including myself. Only to be told later the DM he wrote me in to into another realm where I could go to learn how to resolve my issues with the gods. I sat out of the next one and a half sessions as well for added effects as the party thought they saw my character completely destroyed.

MEET THE COMMITTEE:

Hi folks!

My name is Daniel. I’m the PRO and one of the founding members of the Midland’s Adventurers Guild. I’m a former broadcast Journalist who has recently become a very civil servant. I have a wonderful daughter called Ava, a lovely puppy named Bandit and I'm married to the love of my life Lyndsay.

When a handful of strangers met in the Bottleneck Bar two years ago to discuss playing DnD, no one could have believed where it would lead. It has been one of the most fun projects of my life to be a part of, and I’m so grateful to have met such wonderful people along the way.

**What are your hopes for this Community**

I want to see it grow so that other people can experience the same positive effects that have made such a huge difference to my life. I’m a Longford native originally and moved home in 2020 following a decade in Galway. Most of my friends had emigrated or lived across the country at this point so I had no real support network or friend group at home.

On meeting a group of ‘underprivileged Idiots’ one January evening in 2024, I unlocked a group of close friends for life that has been growing ever since.

This group has introduced me to TTRPGs, instructed me, helped me gain confidence to DM, gave me a support network and in general, just made me a happier person.

I want to see the group offer the same to other members and show them the joy of these wonderful games and shared narratives.

As we organise more and more and gain access to funding and collaborations, I want to see the group and the hobby in general become a mainstay of the Midlands.

**How you got into TTRPGs**

I grew up playing video games, with a passion for games with great stories. While I was always aware of DnD, my knowledge of it was the stereotypical image you see in lots of tv shows and movies.

After watching The Legend of Vox Machina on TV, I started seeing lots of clips of Critical Role Sessions on Tik Tok and Insta. I was fascinated by the mechanics and shared storytelling.

I played two online One-Shot sessions with the different Irish TTRPG groups and had an absolute blast! I was hooked.

Then began the search for something in person and somewhat local. A few posts on Irish TTRPG pages got me nowhere until one day I spotted a similar post from someone in South Leitrim looking for the exact same as myself.

That post ended up snaring the majority of the founding members who agreed to meet for a pint to discuss the possibility of playing regularly. From that little acorn of a meeting, a large community began to grow.

While I was very new to the system and the roleplay, I quckly fell in love with the story telling element. Shout out to Eoin our first DM who brought us through a 2 year campaign of hijinks, chaos and so so many laughs.

Playing for a few months and the general support of my new friends got me to step up and try DMing. Another passion was discovered!

Since meeting in the Bottleneck Bar in January 2024, rarely has a week gone by that I have not rolled some dice and more than likely failed a stealth check.

**What and who do you play?**

As I mentioned I just finished a two year campaign as a Dano Cordova, a half Elf swashbuckler Rogue who was considered, in his eyes, to be the 7th best private investigator in Faerun. (He made it to number 6 when Number 3 died of old age).

He was a wonderful character to start my journey with. What began as a fairly 2 dimensional character quickly became the source of so many laughs as this stealthy, acrobatic and charming Rouge repeatedly failed to hide, jump and flirt…sometimes all at once.

His failures in skill checks created a wonderfully silly character that I will love forever.

My next character is heading into the Curse of Strahd as a Reverse Satyr Heavy Metal Bard (Goat Head, Human Bottom Half) so l’m looking forward to the trauma.

I also run a youth Campaign with the wonderful Attic House Youth Group in Longford Town. We’re just about to start bringing a new group of teens through an intro campaign.

Apart from that, I’m in the middle of running the three part starter set for the Fallout TTRPG for two tables and I’m having an absolute ball with it.

**What is your standout TTRPG moment?**

Oh man, where to start? I’ll give you a few little snap shots:

Having to be physically forced into engaging with the backstory I provided the DM because I kept missing the hooks. (Sorry Eoin)

Constantly trying to do cool Rogue moves or flourishes to have the dice say no.. with generally hilarious consequences.

Almost TPKing everyone by using a Temu quality Wish spell to get out of a magical NDA.

Several moments where my youth players realised the story twist and lost their minds in reaction. Job done!

The same kids cosplaying as their characters from my campaign at different events. 🥹🥹

The smiles, laughs and cries of dismay from players as you create a story for them.

I will have many more moments to come and can’t wait to introduce the wonderful world of TTRPPGs to my own daughter as she grows.

PS. Just to put it on the record. Despite what you may hear in the group, no I am not an arsonist. I’ve never been charged.

MEET THE COMMITTEE:

My name is Lauren and I’m an Ordinary member of a committee for extraordinary people. My talents are terrible dice rolls and the storage of entirely useless information.

*Your hopes for the community*

My goal is for the community to grow and offer a welcoming space for anyone to join. TTRPG’s offer a creative gaming environment that can be played by almost anyone at any level and any budget. If I can manage to play it, anyone can!

This group has been great for helping me push past my social anxiety and make friends I never would have met otherwise. Being able to step into an imaginary world of swords and spells has been an outlet where I can leave Lauren behind and become whatever character I want to be. For three hours a week I get to leave the stresses of the real world at the door and become someone else. Someone who has a damn cool axe.
My goal is for this group to connect as many new players as we can and share the freedom and friendship gaming can offer.

*How you got into TTRPGs*

During covid a small group of friends decided to jump into a campaign called “Curse of Strahd”. It took only one session before I fell in love with the collaborative storytelling that can be done. It was only through overhearing a conversation that I found this group of fellow nerds and have been loving the DnD journey so far. The occasional eavesdropping can be very fortuitous.

*Who and what you play*

I am currently playing a warlock named Clytemnestra Voxamine, who has a very devious and fluffy secret. Her goal is maximum chaos and she is aided by the county Longford hero: a pine marten.

*You're stand out TTRPG memory/moment*

Stealing everything not nailed down in a haunted house and ending up with the deeds to a windmill. Many sessions later we came across the windmill guarded by evil guard scarecrows. I remembered the deed and asked did they respect property ownership. Our Dungeon Master thought it was so ridiculous he allowed it, and so the scarecrows became our minions. My character proceeded to accidentally burn the windmill down five minutes later, destroying it, the scarecrows, and the many orphans we had come to rescue.

Or simply:
“You added a 6 plus a 3 and somehow came to 7?”
